I didn't see the live footage of the game or the presser. I saw a quick highlight of the foul. It seemed like a hard foul and yeah there down by 30 or so but the flagrant 1 was enough of a punishment... what he did to that kid, without knowing the facts , seemed over the top. Respect for Izzo or not. The presser didnt bother me. It was a dumb question but he does seem like he's starting to spiral out of control with anger and frustration. Hasn't he always been like this though? Or has he jumped it up a notch?
I think he's generally always been like this. Go back to the Cincy/X brawls.
Its just way more reported at UCLA
so then UCLA knew what they were getting themselves into and hence he likely is not getting fired for this. End of story
They definitely knew. I don't think he'd get fired for "this" but they could certainly use "this" as the reason why when they do fire him which is probably coming sooner or later. Past 3 years have not been good. We're five years removed from the fluke FF run so not sure how many years of wiggle room he gets from that.
I would think his general attitude will get him less leeway.
Anyway, can you imagine Bill Self and Mick Cronin flippingn roles and Cronin having to deal with this Darryn Peterson saga?

oh yeah that would be comical to see. He'd definitely blow a gasket
This doorknob thing makes 0 sense. Before the season started 1 attended 2 different meet & greet fundraising events for Coach Devries. Now I could have had the wool pulled over my eyes with just 1 exposure but not with 2. No falsehoods appeared at all. I grant you he's 2-3 horses short of the type of team IUBB fans want but I also remember a year when Daryl Thomas had to play center because the post position didn't turn out as RMK expected. We lived with it.
yes and had Doorknob already won 2 nattys and multiple Big Ten Titles etc then I'd probably overlook it too. Turns out he hasn't yet
DD has the personality of a door knob Can't argue that one Being genuine or kind doesn't mean he has a personality... he has no charisma
If he was a better coach I wouldn't care that he has no charisma.

nor would I.
But ejecting your own player is absurd. It was a flagrant, sure, but I've seen far more egregious fouls.
Here's the main issue: The ejection didn't seem to have some motivating factor behind it; it was simply a dick move by a frustrated elf.
I know nothing about the incident, but I kind of like the idea of a coach sending his player to the locker room if he committed an unwarranted, blatant foul. Especially if the player has shown he can't control himself before.
Little man syndrome always gets them in the end.
@gthomas Hes definitely had some very solid teams...both at Cincy and UCLA. But I'm not sure he could be good enough for me to be able to stomach his fake macho/gangster schtick he has going.
The fact of the matter is it is always about coaches not the school. Sampson would have been at IU like twenty years at this point and probably at least gotten us to the final four several times minimum. He took Houston of all places to six straight sweet sixeteens at worst. We just hired him when rules still mattered now they dont at all. We just never hire the right guys at the right time mostly. I still think sampson will win one before he hangs it up.

Disparaging the UCLA brand on a national level. Sounds like code words that translate to "with cause".
On an unrelated note, UCLA's kids' gear is fire. I like that sweatshirt.
