This doorknob thing makes 0 sense. Before the season started 1 attended 2 different meet & greet fundraising events for Coach Devries. Now I could have had the wool pulled over my eyes with just 1 exposure but not with 2. No falsehoods appeared at all. I grant you he's 2-3 horses short of the type of team IUBB fans want but I also remember a year when Daryl Thomas had to play center because the post position didn't turn out as RMK expected. We lived with it.
Yes except that IU went like 21-7 and made the tourney. I could care less if our center is 5'7 as long as we win and least make the tourney. Two things that not very unlikely this year.

yes and had Doorknob already won 2 nattys and multiple Big Ten Titles etc then I'd probably overlook it too. Turns out he hasn't yet
DD has the personality of a door knob Can't argue that one Being genuine or kind doesn't mean he has a personality... he has no charisma

@gthomas hahahahaha- yes, would be fantastic listening to him bitch and whine all the time.
look, DD wasn’t my choice as you know, but he will be fine. Wonder if all those that called me out for wanting Beard would join forces now!
You're spot-on about Beard ... guilty as charged. I wanted nothing to do with him during the search, but I'd be thrilled to have him now.@gthomas hahahahaha- yes, would be fantastic listening to him bitch and whine all the time.

Anyhow, one of my sticking points is that it seems Dolson set his sights on DK long ago and had tunnel vision. Had SD whiffed on several coaches, I could understand. But if DeVries really was the #1 candidate months before Woody 'retired," that's disheartening.
My reaction isn't really about wins and losses this season; it's about the future. I just don't see DeVries moving this program forward. Fwiw, here's what I think will happen: He'll do well enough to keep the job for several years, but he'll have little to show for it. Either be great or suck.
I think IU basketball under DK will be much like Steelers football the last 10 years: borderline playoffs every year, and one and done when they make it. No disasters ... but little chance for something great. I'm hoping someday IU won't be fine with simply treading water.

I always wanted beard though i was not on this site at the time. But i had relatives saying you cannot hire beard he is shady. Being nice takes an L in the current landscape. The ncaa is corrupt now and all the players are fully paid so what good does trying to be pure as the driven snow do you. Nobody cares about beards past anymore the ncaa is a joke now. But iu once again passes on someone they could of had. I hope it works out i really do.
I swear DD and his coaches get message board feedback. He was up and stalking the sideline and barking and urging his players last night more than Ive seen this season. Very animated. One of his assistant was up a lot too, but I dont know who that was. I enjoyed seeing that.

What would be a reasonable extension for Dolson to offer? Three years?

someone told him about my nickname for him. Doorknob

Not to burst your bubble but I doubt it, and I hope that coaches don't read message boards. When would they have the time, and what would be the point?
My take is that he's sick of losing and looking bad doing it.
Last season, IU was 14-6 after 20 games. This season they're 13-7.
I realize it's a different season and Woody had better talent, but that's just sad.
My bubble? You thought I was serious? And even when they do hear criticism, no not from reading reading message boards.I swear DD and his coaches get message board feedback. Agreed, I hope he is sick of losing and the team looking bad. I liked seeing some damn sense of urgency.

The personality stuff is a double edged sword. Yeah, DDV isn't super animated but on the flip side you can also have manic spazzes like Crean or Allen. Guys who are so amped up they can't even follow what is going on during a game in real-time. Its pointless. You either win or you don't.
@gthomas So we'd get a guy that's also not great at getting his players to play with consistent effort and focus...and then he bitches and complains about his players in post game pressers... Both guys are having issues doing central parts of their job...one of them is throwing others under the bus, and making excuses for it. No thanks... I'll take our guy 100 times out of 100 over Cronin.
Agreed. Also, it is way too early to complain about DeVries. Not because he isn't struggling but because it does no good to complain in year 1.
Let him recruit and judge in a few years. If Nebraska did what IU fans do, Hoiberg would have been gone 3 years ago and theyd another struggling coach right now.
Besides, Cronin is annoying. Complains openly about his own guys every year while wearing a weird little zoot suit.
