@dbmhoosier Okay, I'll play. Using YOUR logic, McCollum is a far superior coach to DeVries, right? Iowa whipped IU's ass in Bloomington, after all, with a fraction of the Hoosiers' NIL.

I'm laying down my sword. I'd rather have DD than a serial killer.

I’m not impressed with Cronin as a coach in the slightest, but why am I supposed to be offended and clutch my pearls over the way he put some dumbass reporter in his place for a stupid question like that?  On the scale of bad behavior by coaches this whole brouhaha was probably about a 3 as far as I’m concerned.  And yet you’ve got these morons today saying what he did was a fireable offense.  If you wanna fire the guy fire him for being a shitty coach, but to say he should be fired for the way he handled that post game interview is horseshit IMO…

@jj_mcclure for me its the sum of all the pressers he's had the last couple years bitching and whining about everything under the sun, namely his players.  He's getting talent to come there, so obviously he probably isn't that way with players off camera.  But his whole schtick is the worst.  I'd begrudgingly take him over Woodson... the decision would be more difficult between he and Archie though.

To your question... memes are starting pop up, and even media pundits are mentioning it, that he sounds like a guy that's trying to get himself fired.  Nowadays when media folks, and social media, smell blood in the water, things like this take on a whole new level of significance...in my view.

Cronin is trying to be a Bob Knight, but without the great coaching part.

Cut Cronin some slack. Christmas is only 10 months away, and that little elf is stressed.

Still a better coach than DD, though.

Yet somehow lost to Devries on his home court with what is likely a superior roster.

This only works for gthomas - BM beats IU at home so BM is there greatest coach -but if DD wins at UCLA, Cronin is still a better coach

This is who Cronin is with cameras rolling, and NBA scouts tell me he’s even worse behind closed doors, at practice. A Western Conference scout, a longtime friend of mine, was discussing Cronin’s recent odd behavior with me before tipoff at a recent Big Ten game. This was before the incident Tuesday night at Michigan State — that’s how bizarre Cronin has been behaving — when the scout told me:

“He mother(bleeps) them in practice like you wouldn’t believe,” the scout said. “Oh, he (bleeps) them. Mick is the only coach I know who doesn’t film his practice. You know why? He doesn’t want evidence.”

An Eastern Conference scout, another longtime friend who has attended UCLA practices, said he’s heard the same — that Cronin doesn’t film practice — and added: “John Wooden would be beside himself” at the way Cronin treats his players on a daily basis.

@gros-louis Crazy.  Surprised he was able to pull guys like Dent and Booker then.  Both would have known that, I would think?  And especially with Dent, he would have had plenty of other options, even if UCLA was paying huge NIL money.

I didn't see the live footage of the game or the presser.  I saw a quick highlight of the foul. It seemed like a hard foul and yeah there down by 30 or so but the flagrant 1 was enough of a punishment... what he did to that kid, without knowing the facts , seemed over the top.  Respect for Izzo or not.  The presser didnt bother me. It was a dumb question but he does seem like he's starting to spiral out of control with anger and frustration.  Hasn't he always been like this though?  Or has he jumped it up a notch?

He's loco. I'd love to see Cronin and the former K-State coach (Tang?) hit the town together. No one would be safe.

I don't think anyone other than a bunch of twitter trolls are saying to fire him for the response to that reporter's question.  The dude is and always has been an asshole.  Speaking on behalf of my fellow assholes, that's not a fireable offense as long as you're producing whatever you're being paid to produce.  Once you stop producing at a rate that no longer justifies dealing with your asshole behavior, things like that response start tipping the scales.

I think he's generally always been like this. Go back to the Cincy/X brawls.

Its just way more reported at UCLA

so then UCLA knew what they were getting themselves into and hence he likely is not getting fired for this. End of story

I don't have an issue with any coach snapping back at reporters; they ask stupid questions at times. But ejecting your own player is absurd. It was a flagrant, sure, but I've seen far more egregious fouls.

Here's the main issue: The ejection didn't seem to have some motivating factor behind it; it was simply a dick move by a frustrated elf.
