@openwheel Karvala is experiencing a major upgrade in competition this year. The EYBL circuit he's in for his senior year is light years above Wisconsin high school basketball. The EYBL is loaded with kids that will be playing in power five programs. In the March 14 game against Spire he scored 13 and had 7 rebounds in 28 minutes. For the season Karvala is averaging less than 10 points a game and on his team is the 4th or 5th scoring option. The CIA Bella Vista team has some big time talent! He is a very good player but does not dominate as he did in Wisconsin.

My comments are based on 7 games in which I saw him play.

As I don't care who wins any of these college tournaments, I'll probably watch Karvala and his team play for the EYBL Conference championship on Sunday.

You can’t count on freshmen to contribute much unless they are ranked in the top 10, and even then it takes some of them awhile to adjust.

Back in the old days you had freshman teams and even junior varsity to give the new kids a chance to play while adjusting and developing. Now it's either produce immediately or sit the pine. Not easy for a kid. I can see the lower level programs now taking that role. Kid gets to play while developing.

Yeah, I saw he disappeared in their game against Monteverde. Stat line mostly zeros, not many minutes. Dont know why. Good game the next game, maybe was benched that lit a fire. He is struggling a little by the stats this year. I thought he was a better shooter. Guess hes a year or two from contributing much in college.

Manhertz I didnt like his shooting motion before, he turns sideways. And thought he may not be quick enough. Rewatching some recent highlights I see it works, he has good numbers. Has quickness. I guess it was Moody I was less sure of. Nice controlled all-around game, maybe not as quick as Manhertz.

@gthomas How many wins would Woody get with IU's current roster? One way of thinking about it is we won 18 games with a mid major roster. I like Devries style of play. He just needs to get more talent.

While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon

Vaughn Karvala's, CIA Bella Vista team defeated top ranked AZ Compass by a 69-65 score for the Nike EYBL Championship. Not the greatest game for Vaughn: 2 free throws, 2 turnovers and 5 rebounds. He may need a little development time before helping the Hoosiers. The league he's playing in is quite a bit more advanced than the Wisconsin high school competition he feasted on for 3 years. CIA Bella Vista has the conference MVP, Miles Sadler. He is a lightning quick point guard and will be going to West Virginia next year. Sadler was the best player on the court today with 24 points and 7 assists.

Although Moody is the lowest rated of the three, it's my impression that he might be more of a "gamer" than the other two, who I see as "pretty boys" albeit with good upside potential.

It's a hypothetical, so I have no idea. DD hasn't proven anything, imo. He had good money and constructed a weak roster, and often got blitzed in the 2nd half once opponents adjusted. Moreover, chucking 30 threes and playing little defense isn't an appealing style of play ... to me, anyway.

I agree.  I cringe when I read about his "beautiful" style.  Why did it take Durwood half the year to figure out we were better when Wilkerson frequently took the ball to the basket?

@arioznahoosier4554 Add B10 starter level PG, Wing, and Big, and solid rotational big, to 9 of those 10 guys I mentioned... and that could be a really good basketball team.

B10 Starter PG, Ristic backup

Dorn

B10 Starter Wing, Miles and a couple of the freshmen off the bench

Sisley, Harris

B10 Starter big, rotational big

No reason to think this isn't possible...

Dorn doesn't have the skills to play two. Needs to be a secondary ballhandler, and Dorn ain't that. He's more a big wing, or small four.  A triple threat scoring combo guard would be ideal in the 2 spot.

Will Ristic play? He strikes me as a combo guard. No idea if he is going to be any good though.

For those who want to see Vaughn Karvala in action, turn on ESPN2 at 4:00 pm on Good Friday as his CIA Bella Vista team moves on in the Chipolte Nationals against some of the top high school competition in the US. Vaughn had a good game Thursday in the win against St. Paul VI with 15 points (included 3 of 4 from the 3 point), 4 rebounds and no turnovers in 24 minutes.

At noon Saturday on ESPN, the Chipolte National Championship will be played with Vaughn Karvala's Bella Vista team taking on Montverde Academy.

Vaughn had a solid game on Friday, playing 28 minutes: 12 points on 5 from 10 (2 of 6 were on 3's), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, a block and a turnover.

Karvala’s team won the championship game. I only caught the last quarter. Just enough to watch Vaughn brick 3 wide open 3’s. He did play good D though and made a close lay-in. Don’t know much about anything else unless I see a box score.
