If we get that soon, I'll make the first donation for the statue. 😐24-8 record, 6-seed in the tournament, not good enough. Fired. ...
@ams66 I could see someone like Otzelberger going from Iowa State to UNC. That's a big step up for him. Hard to see Tommy Lloyd leaving Arizona. Not necessarily a step up and he's a west coast guy. I saw Odom's name mentioned. Maybe he'd leave UVA after 1 year, but he's off to a great start and it's tough to move in-conference like that.
Other names I've seen mentioned already:
- Dusty May. Can't see that happening
- Todd Golden. Not sure why he'd leave Florida, even for UNC
- Nate Oates. This I could see. Bama has a ton of resources, but it's still Alabama. UNC is definitely a step up. Though with the recent off-court issues for multiple players, maybe they stay away from him.
- Mark Byintgon. Can definitely see him leaving Vandy for UNC.
- Josh Schertz. Same. Would think he'd jump at the chance to go from SLU to Carolina.
I'm sure they'll make a run at Donovan, Golden, May, and Oztelberger at least. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet on Otzelberger. He seems the most likely based on success at a high major and the prospect of the big jump from current school to a blueblood.
@jhoban19 Otzelberger maybe if he's interested. His buyout is around $4m according to ESPN. Oates is at $18m or maybe $10m depending on timing. Golden is $16m. Shertz wasn't listed in the story I read but yeah that would be a step up for sure for him.
Otzelberger’s wife is an Iowa State grad.
Kansas job in play now too - bet they outbid UNC if they’re after the same guys…
@ams66 Saw Schertz listed in the article on si.com, along with Lloyd, Donovan, May, Otzelberger, and a few others.
@oneeyedundertaker is it official that he's retiring? Have seen some rumors that he might and some fake twitter account "reporting" that he is retiring, but nothing else official.

Some local & national guys reporting it’s imminent but now Self is saying it’s “bad info” but stopping waaay short of saying he’s coming back.
Archie must be a good negotiator or else he owns some kind of compromising pictures the athletic director doesn't want shared.Archies last two- at that point we all knew he was not the guy
Nicknames are for winners. His name is Ryan. Archie is the nickname his mommy gave him and he's not a winner.

Damn....things must be pretty bleak at URI....
Archie was a 'winner' when he played at NCS, fwiw.

Amazing you can bet that bad at your job and still make millions. Dayton must have been a complete fluke because he can not even win a Rhode Island of all places.
24-8 record, 6-seed in the tournament, not good enough. Fired. Of course that's not the whole story. It will be interesting to see who they actually get. Easy to speculate on names like Donovan and Stevens but neither has shown any interest in returning to college coaching. And other big college names are likely pretty happy where they are, or will now negotiate additional happiness. Not to mention huge buyouts.
If you had this kind of six year run at IU in the last 25 years they would probably name the arena after you.

I don't think there's a chance in hell, but if Stevens ended up at UNC, Hoosier fans would lose their minds.
You really think IU made a "hard run" at Stevens this time around? I highly doubt it.And for the last 2 hires, Dolson made hard runs at Stevens
@gthomas if Stevens ends up at UNC or Kansas (or any other program), I might actually consider just giving up entirely and never watch college ball again. I would be way too defeated to ever pay attention any more.
