Shams is reporting that Michigan HC Dusty May is leaving Ann Arbor to become the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. We'll see what the fallout of this ends up being, but we'll start this thread early (or late depending how you look at it).

Crazy.  This where it’d be nice to have some elasticity with our NIL budget.  We have an open slot, there are 7-8 very high level guys that will now be re assessing their options.  We have holes in our roster…

On May…would have loved to see what he would have done at IU.  But if he was destined to bolt early to the NBA…kinda glad to have been spared that drama.

@hoosiers94 just was texting my friend. Yep if we got a banner and he left we would be OK with it I think. But if he let’s say went to the elite 8 or even final 4 and left after 2 years??? We would go ape shit.

makes more sense why he didn’t want the job, and some of me thinks he didn’t want to do that to IU and always had aspirations of the NBA.  He had to  be contemplating taking a deal, you just don’t take this job without wanting the nba for a long time.

@iunorth this is a situation where you make room for a guy.   Would love to grab one of their dudes. Could make a decent team into a contender.

agreed.  Have to find the money if you can add a piece that moves the needle enough to take you to the upper tier of teams.  I'd think a guy like Cuban ... not necessarily him... but someone like him with the ego would pony up for that.

It'll be interesting to see how things turn out for him in Dallas. Cooper Flagg is a great player to build around.

That said, there will be plenty of landing spots in college basketball if things don't work out in the NBA. I could see things working out for him like Brad Stevens or Nick Saban.

@hoosiers94 Cuban is on record saying that he is the reason we got Fernando.  Said dolson came to him saying we needed X amount to get him, and he wrote the check.

@cavanagh

This was always going to be his path if he won and the right situation was offered...He thinks he's Brad Stevens.

@iureactionary better than Brad at this point.  Brad never won in college.  Came close.

Good riddance! Don't have to having to play/recruit against him any longer. And if he flops in the NBA in a few years then perhaps the stars could align.

I did not see that one coming. Maybe we can hire May when he comes back to college in four or five years like most of them do.

@thehoosierhuddle With this now being said, I'm glad Indiana didn't hire him. Yes he won a natty for Meatchicken, but Indiana needs long term stability. Obviously, we'll still have to see if CDD can be the guy.
