Dolson has held high level roles in the athletics department for a long time. He is a big reason why basketball is a trash fire. Expecting him to change the culture is a fool’s errand.

I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that IU’s ineptitude will never change. It is impossible for them to get a coaching hire right in basketball.

He has the chance to pull an LSU and totally redeem himself.

The good news is we may have missed on May but Woodson got that fourth year because archie got that fourth year. Lol. 15 years from now may will be considered probably a steal of a hire by Michigan. Props to them for having a winning mentality.

May has an absolute machine this s beyond a clinic today. Im sure NC will try and hire may but I doubt they will get him. May headed to his second final four in four years and has an .825 winning percentage at michigan. Guiy is going to be a legend imo

DeVries won’t sniff the success of Dusty May. It is so obvious. Just when I think IU can’t get any more inept they manage to unpleasantly surprise me. Just an all-time bag fumble by Dolson and Buckner.

This thread reminds me of the Hooploops forum.

I hate Quinn Buckner and Mike Woodson. They singlehandedly f**ked IU basketball and kept Dusty May and Braylon Mullins from IU. And Dolson sat in the corner and let them do it.

We have made some pretty bad decisions over the last 25 years but missing on May and now Ben M will likely be the worse yet and the final nails in the coffin. It is just mind blowing its like you almost have to try and be this bad at hiring coaches on purpose.

@arioznahoosier4554 I don't blame Dolson for May or McCollum ... neither was coming to IU, imo.

@arioznahoosier4554 That was always the perplexing thing about Woodson. How did someone who worked so hard as a player and was a favorite of not only fans but RMK also... end up being so disengaged as a head coach of the same program?

That one's easy.  Coaching as an asst and head coach in the NBA, plus age.

The fact that IU hired a 64 year old with no college experience to try and and build back a broken program shows you just how out of touch and clueless they are. Most all older coaches have already been doing this a long time and built programs. To try an build a program you want someone hungry who is willing to work harder than they have ever worked harder in their lives not some 64 year old nobody else would hire. Its mind blowing.

His 315 - 365 record as an NBA head coach certainly didn't warrant getting hired at Indiana.

Woody didn't warrant getting hired at IUPUI. I'll never understand why the powers-that-be bent the knee for Quinn ... a guy who had one of the worst coaching seasons in NBA history. The bar was so low after Archie's tenure, but Woody lowered it more.

Woodson was never viewed as the long term savior.

Woody was brought in to stabilize the ship, and then hand it over once it was in better shape. 🤣 🤣

Yep. And Fife and Matta were brought in to make us feel better about the hire. In fact, most IU fans liked the Matta "angle" far more than anything else.

@gthomas Yes the Fife/Matta angle made me hopefully think "maybe this can work" despite all logic to the contrary. And we thought perhaps Fife was the "coach in waiting" and Matta was there as the consigliere.
