@arioznahoosier4554 Ryan Carr is a positive addition. He has a lot of connections in the scouting and agent world and I am optimistic that he has international connections that should pay dividends as well. Having him on board should help Indiana in roster construction. I don't think there's any doubt about that. That written, he's only one piece of the puzzle and he's not going to solve all issues. Anyone assuming otherwise is probably setting themselves up for disappointment.

I believe many are setting themselves up for a disappointment he is not going to be a miracle worker like some think . I imagine other programs have guys just like carr on their payroll. And I highly doubt we are going to get guys over Duke and Kansas just because of Carr. I think of all these so called genius NBA minds woodson hired and paid and that did nothing.

I don't see anybody here saying anything close to what you're insinuating. Its a position that all top programs have now as you point out. He has a lot of NBA experience. There don't seem to be any negatives about it, yet. I don't see a single soul saying he's some savior.

@arioznahoosier4554 which "so called NBA genius minds" that Mike Woodson hired are you referring to? Ryan Carr has nothing to do with guys like Armand Hill or whoever else you are insinuating. Being negative and pessimistic about IUBB is perfectly understandable but I don't know what the hire of Ryan Carr has to be negative about. Very few programs have a person that was as high up in a successful NBA front office as Ryan Carr was with the Pacers...he's not just some guy they plucked from a video analyst role.

Wittman

Hill

Both were suppose to have NBA minds. I am not saying carr will not help its just hard to get really excited we grasp at straws every offseason yet it never seems to work out.

Stop it, not a single person hyped up Armond Mummy Hill nor Randy Wittman on here and you know it. They were universally panned along with Todd and all the other cronies Bigfoot gave salaries to to help 'consult'.

CDD isn't in a position this year to dictate anything or neuter any staff that are there to help him. He needs to improve, I'm sure he's been told that, and he better utilize any and all resources that are made available to him.

The contribution I most want is a process that creates positive results for the human resources acquired to own success on the floor.  A seldom spoken of task Cignetti has obviously used everywhere he's been.

Yes, Cig is a genius among geniuses when it comes to player assessment. He refuses to fail in the HR area.

why does “nba minds” have to do w Carr? He was a talent evaluator- that should translate- he isn’t running the offense or defense.  He is here to hopefully use his nba agent connections and help identify talent and the worth of said talent- pretty much string the value on guys and identifying fits for this staff.

@arioznahoosier4554 I don’t think any of us thought of Woodson’s NBA friends as geniuses. From people who have worked with Ryan and known him well, most everyone seems pretty positive and impressed. I don’t believe anyone thinks he alone will turn things around. Just a piece of the puzzle,

@hoosiers94 Again with the juvenile name calling. Woodson didn’t pay attention to the people he had around him to help. I’m pretty sure DeVries will. Charisma? Like Hurley? Matt Painter? Coach K? I don’t think charisma has much to do with being a good basketball coach. In fact, I can’t think of too many who actually have much.

@arioznahoosier4554 DeVries hasn’t given any indication that he is egotistical or narcissistic. My guess he will be grateful for the help.

@mushroomgod you need enough personality to get buy in from the team.  Being charismatic

It would seem so.  The "Doorknob" label is perfect.  I am fond of my own "Durwood DeVries", but I think it might imply a level of stupidity that's not there.  I don't think he's dumb.  He's just milk toast.  Can you imagine him telling a good joke?  Or being pissed off enough that he was ready to kick someone's ass?  Me neither.  You would think that 'steadiness' might be a virtue with him, but it's really not.  It's very strange.  Dolson's interview with him must have been a short one.

He is as boring as archie the guy can put you to sleep. If he won at a very high level it could be overlooked but just seems like a very bad fit for a program like IU. I guess next year will show us one way or the other.

EDIT...want to add this here as a reply to Zeke, who says that Jurley, Painter, Coach K also don't have "charisma".  Maybe....but all of them have gravitas....to be a good coach you have to have either or both.

no I can't see any of that.  He's seemingly a nice guy. And having met him I can likely see he is.  But inspiring or charismatic nah...I wouldn't run through a brick wall for that guy.  If Dolson hired him because he was more agreeable than McCollum or whomever that's a red flag.  Been there done that. That's an expensive track to follow.  He's a simp ... that's definitely what we don't need

I don’t get how Dolson could hire Cignetti, who is full of confidence and swag, see how big he won in his first season, and then go out and hire a timid beta in DeVries.
