I expect another lackluster effort against Rutgers and then a loss to Nebraska.

Wow, shocker.

We need a doom and gloom thread as we have on the hoops board with the airing of grievances. @thehoosierhuddle can you start one and pin it?

@thehoosierhuddle That was originally for dopes that were posting on twitter, but you have a point.

Every team has issues.

Texas is ranked #1 and their offensive line stinks.

Ohio State is yet to have a WR2 emerge and just gave up 462 yards to Illinois.

@hoosiers94

Hoover isn't Fernando

Is this your own thought or are you just regurgitating the National Media's lazy ass "in depth" analysis of the Hoosiers?

If the second, I would recommend ignoring those national media types that don't watch Indiana games in full and only watch highlight or clip packages, or tuned in for the fourth quarter of the NW game, or just box score watch.

nope. I don't read other publications... I watch with me eyes... try it. It's pretty enlightening... he is no Fernando... so we have to coach him and we also have to play to his strengths... can he deliver us to another title game??  Not the way he's playing this far

You need to set up a filter on the server to move all gradman's posts to that thread.

Oh my god! Can you believe this guy is telling us that Cig and staff don’t know what they are doing? I cannot be laughing harder. Wow!

Nope. I wasn't saying that at all.  Cig absolutely knows what he's doing.  And it was a good win against a good team.  But from what I've seen so far, I think IU will struggle with only one healthy RB when they hit the stretch starting with Nebraska.

A 209 yard struggle?   Bostad's men will get the blocking done.

Will be nice once we have Turbo 100%. And Khobie.

Keep Beebe healthy too. I thought Beebe appeared to be gaining confidence in his own health, game by game. Often players deal with a bit of a mental issue returning from knee injury. Last game he apparently said 'I'm good' and ran harder than ever. He also seems like a type that appears to get stronger as the game goes on because he doesn't wear down.

Saw a podcast saying they expect Jayreon Campbell to be the next backup instead of Cuono. I don't know, Campbell looks like a good find for us. But still, Cuono has done well, and Cignettti seems to need that trust in all situations that a year older RB would have proven more than a frosh.

Seems sort of odd on the tight ends not satisfying the coaches on blocking. Must be a bit complicated. Pretty cool to find out that Shazz is considered a good blocker. Marsh was known to be, Awesome that Marsh is willing to stick his nose in to help out. Give Marsh the ball. You block, you get the rock!

@openwheel - Last year before Beebe's injury, IMO he looked like the best of the bunch on THAT squad.  It wasn't a large sample size but he was averaging 7.7ypc and the rest....was not.  Coming back from injury is always a concern but if he is truly all the way back, he could be scary good.

He looks like he's lost half a step, but not power, if that makes sense.  He got caught from behind on long runs twice that I can remember off the top of my head. That kick off return in the first game he took from Richards and the long run last week. He's been a load to bring down though.

@walt542 I don't know. As young as the TE's are, and as many options as there are at TE, I still feel like if they weren't confident, we'd have an experienced TE on the roster. Heck, we just watched a TE from MN-Duluth (or wherever he was from!), light us up. No way to know unless your name is Cignetti or Shanahan, but I feel like TE is a position where there is a lot of crossover and it doesn't appear to be an especially costly NIL position, so my best guess is they felt comfortable with who they had here already. We do have a lot of guys at that spot and again, I think they'd have culled that down and signed someone if they didn't think someone would step up. Honestly I wonder if the guy they felt strongly about was Gibbs and his injury status put him a little behind. They seemed to like him for a freshman especially.

  1. Keeping everyone motivated off of a national championship is hard.  That's the rat poison Saban always talks about.  To be honest, I expected more out of the DL than we've seen.  Not that they haven't been very good statistically so far, but I'm not sure I think they've been great statistically considering the opponents.  Not being able to take down Chiles is concerning, although Cig was ultra-aware of that in the post-game presser and we've had trouble with mobile QBs in years past.
  2. Chiles being able to extend plays (similarly the QB for WKU could as well), really stresses a zone defense.  That just comes with the territory.
  3. The OL not converting short yardage situations is a holdover from last year.  It wasn't until later in the run that using Black & Nowakowski in short yardage became kind of automatic.
  4. Overall, the run game has been solid at producing chunk plays, and that's a great feeling.  None of the RBs have been able to turn them into TDs, they almost always seem to get caught on the sideline or something.  I don't think that's a speed thing, it seems more like an angles thing to me.
  5. Hoover:  I think the coaches need to figure out what he does best and go with that.  I'm more and more convinced each week that he just can't consistently throw the wide side out route to the sideline (no shame in that, it's an elite throw).  But if he can't do it, don't do it.  Similarly, whether it's timing or arm strength, he's underthrowing shot plays to Charlie trying to take the top off.  Personally, I think it's timing more than arm strength, but get it fixed or stop throwing it.  On the other hand, he throws some absolute DIMES on crossers, passes over the middle, and short side out routes.  If it were me, I'd emphasize that.

But what do I know, I'm just a simple country lawyer.

Maybe Cig was influenced by the rating or number of 'stars' in the portal when he picked our tight ends.  🤣
