I saw Black as a straight ahead power runner with great acceleration, and Hemby as the faster, shiftier runner. Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside. But it didn't really work out that way since Kaelon showed higher end speed then I knew he had, and Hemby while fast wasn't 'faster'. Still, Black for power and Hemby to make guys miss, to me. But Kaleon overall by the end of the season.
Kaleon made people miss, as much as Hemby. Just IMO he is a 'one cut' runner, as soon as he starts his stutter step side to side, it's over, he's not going anywhere. First cut though, if you miss him he might go. But he needs that acceleration, he doesn't juke you.
I see the same thing with Beebe and Turbo. Beebe for Kaelon-like straight ahead power, Turbo for making guys miss and a bit more speed. But, just like last year, they both have plenty of every trait, both have power, both have speed, both can make you miss, both can catch.
I think as a pair, this year our duo has higher end potential... Which is crazy, considering Kaelon was awesome for us, and a 3rd round pick and is looking good, and Hemby while not making the NFL roster, was signed for a practice squad.
@openwheel Yeah, you and I had differing views on Hemby and Black. I think they had more crossover and were more similar in traits, but I always thought Black was shiftier with good power while Hemby was more the power back who also had some shake in his bake. I think Turbo is more pronounced as the scat back, even though again he's tough to bring down and Beebe has more power, even though he has an ability to break long runs. If you count the 2 TDs called back, Beebe might already have more 50+ yard runs than any of the other 3 in a full year. 2 very capable backfields. Love it if we get Martin back and healthy for the playoff run!
I felt like Hemby was our speed merchant but who could run tough. Black was our absolute hammer who had the chance to break one, but wasn't necessarily 'fast'.@gros-louis not sure who you mean: Hemby/Black or Turbo/Beebe? I think Hemby and Black were more similar in style, but to me Black was more likely to break one, although still a very tough runner. I thought by the end of the season he was our more effective back, but we still seemed to start Hemby more often I thought. Turbo I think is more clearly shiftier and more of a scat back, while Beebe is more clearly a power back. Obviously Beebe can break runs too, but I think of those as being their primary traits. What do you see differently?
For me, Hemby = Turbo and Black = Beebe.
Not 100% like for like, but those are how I would categorize the two.
Turbo is listed as probable for Saturday. I think we'll see him be the #2 back this week. And Cuono is questionable, so our only other option is the freshman.@hoosier-clarion I think both he and Richards have improved a little bit each game too. Hopefully Richards is back for Nebby and we can get back to the fresh legs approach of 2 guys sharing carries.
I'm really curious to see who steps up for Rutger game.
I saw that. I hope we don't have to use him. I really hope he sits and is in better shape next week.
Well crap. I saw the whole injury report and Beebe is questionable. Looks like Richards will have to play.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

@gros-louis Funny how we watch the same games and see things differently, but I'll defer since there are two of you! Sounds like we all agree by the end of the year Black had established himself more as the #1 option, and that this year Turbo is the shiftier of he and Beebe. Let's just get them all healthy! Stinks how this year our injuries seem to be piling up at the same positions: RB and CB.
@hooky I would imagine they'll play Turbo from the sounds of it, rest Beebe to try and get him healthy (unless it was just a ruse to get Rutgers staff checking film and preparing for a new possibility) and then spell Turbo with maybe a more expanded passing game and the freshman Campbell. I think a couple of our young LBs and TEs played RB in HS so in the extreme maybe put them back there and ask them to primarily pass block and use screens and passing game a bit more. Honestly, I'd not hate that to try and get the TEs more touches, figure out who's best in the slot and get Marsh even more involved.
