that's a solid team.
That was the first time I saw them this season. Shades of some of those Barnett teams. They're well coached, despite some late penalties. I think they've got a good guy at the helm if they can keep him.
Chip Kelly is still an elite offensive mind, something people seem to forget.

Impossible to know what kind of path someone with his track record will take, but there could be worse things than being an integral part of a Northwestern resurgence, much like Shanahan and Haines have experienced.

The offensive line has been surprisingly weak at run offense. 2ndary has been late consistently. Now they are down to one RB who isn't a power back.
Need to start airing it out a lot more. Marsh and Becker are top 5% athletically. Put the ball up there and I like IUs chances against all but the very best corners/safeties.
Spread offense. No huddle. Air it out. Use our 5 receivers until they get Khobie Martin or Turbo back.

Pass rush is good. QB is good. RBs are good. Jones has been excellent. Won that damn game for them Friday.

Beebe powered 139 yds. of his 209 yds. behind a weak OL against NW and Turbo added 69 before the injury. That damn OL.
When you look at the trajectories of the two teams, last year's vs. this year's, it is hard not to be disappointed. We played Illinois in our first B1G game last year, also at home, and pummeled them. Illinois ended up 9-4, 5-4 in-conference. NW might do that this year, for sure, but that was not the coming out game that we witnessed last year. I don't think we look like a Top 5 team right now.
That said, what did we expect? Last year's team was special; that doesn't mean this one can't be great, too.
I will say, that game looks a lot different if we convert on 4th and 1 at the goal line and Hoover hits one of those deep balls to Becker. I listened to a podcaster talking about the game and he agreed with RGIII that Hoover was also missing a lot of reads out of the RPO, instances where he should have handed the ball off or kept it himself to run rather than throw. I'm no expert on that, but I could certainly see some plays where that was true.
We had issues its true, but we won! Better that than being Penn State or Michigan who couldn't handle talented teams at home.
For my part the positive spin on Hoover's acciracy is that there were plays to be made, and it seemed like he was going to the right place. Marsh and Becker were getting wide open. Whatever is causing those misses needs to be cleaned up, but hopefully its fixable. Positive spin on the defense is the Chiles might be the most slippery player we will see all year. Should two of those TD drives should've been stopped if he doesnt break contain.

Last year's Heisman QB was trained by Chandler Whitmer, not Sunseri. Cig raved about 'new ideas' from Whitmer. I hope any Hoover issues aren't related... But, Rourke was great under Sunseri. And I'm pretty happy with Hoover so far. Little doubt he'll improve on the timing with his guys..
I think we need to scale back on some of the Hoover long balls. He still needs to take the occasion long shot down the field but he appears to be better on quick outs and short gainers. Move the sticks. Get Marsh out in space. His long balls have been ducks.
