Secondary is a mess

our tackling is atrocious

Hoover is too inaccurate

down 2 running backs

O-line seems like some plays they get pushed around

boy do we miss Ponds, Kamara, Fisher , Cooper, Sarrat, Benson, Coogan, Black, Hemby, and of course Fernando. Wow

IU has a top 15 roster by payroll yet couldn’t get an experienced TE, third starting linebacker or a halfway decent replacement for Louis Moore.

Does anyone think this team doesn't have issues?

A win is a win but if we play like that at Nebraska we will lose not to mention Ohio State and Michigan.  I never expected a repeat of last season so s few losses will not surprise me but it could be more if we do not fix these issues soon.

No but if we voice that strawman frequently enough, and keep saying 'if we play like that ...' we can reap guru reward points whenever we lose a game. And when we win, clearly the coaches listened to the posters. Win-win for status.

I was wrong on our secondary, so far ... I said 'by committee' we'd be good. Ouch on last night. Of course, we did see good coverage on many plays, but Chiles was often able to extend those anyway. And some had to just be missed communication.

Because there is talent. Teams have often shown ability to find holes in our zone but when Haines adjusts during games or practice they have closed down.Lot of big holes in the z one last night.

Haines has a lot of work to do! The good thing is, our coaches are good.

Not too sure why the line doesn't get push. A good line. Shanahan has to adjust. Linebackers were filling the right hole almost every time!

Yeah. Great players. Good team guys. Good winning attitudes.

Was awesome to hear Cig compare Beebe's heart with Kaelon's. So we have some of it on the team! Lot of good guys, good players.

I feel fine about Hoover as our QB. We won't ever be out of a game, with our receivers, unless we are miles behind. So far he's not Rourke or Mendoza but he's good.

Biggest issue is short yardage offense. No excuse for so many failures at the goal line.  A TD on that first possession and we have a different ball game.

Chiles is damn good—period.

We had some short yardage issues early last year, though this year it appears worse.  Puzzling.

It should have been 17-0 or 21-0 at the half and NW’s counterpunches in the 2nd would have been more manageable. But, it was 12-0 and it was a nail biter.

We’ll see if this team can evolve.  I’m not too optimistic.  But, all I can do is watch and hope.

We might face one other QB who plays better than chiles’ second half.

Last year the Illinois game (game four, first B1G game) erased all doubt. This game has created doubt. I guess we'll just have to play the games and see what happens.

I agree he was very good — literally doing it on his own in many instances.

Sayin and Maiava will probably be better.  Bryce at home rushing around… maybe.

We’ll see.  Fingers crossed.

IU is going to face every teams max effort. So that's an issue that's sort of new. One they can't control but im sure that the coaching staff will continue to hammer that home. Hopefully yesterday serves as a wake up call to that fact.

For the teams itself, they lack the speed, depth and discipline the previous two teams had. Unfortunately they can't fix the first two at this point.  Discipline, or lack there of, can be and will be fixed. I'm betting the entire team is watching film today and talking exactly about that.

I think IUFB transitioned last night.  They dealt with adversity, misfires and the obvious challenge teams will be prepared for us this seasorn and give their best.  Hoover is maybe working to hard not to being intercepted.  Playing too safe is what I see.  But no TO's against NW was solid sign of concentration.  But too many penalties is the other side of the coin.  It's progressing on the + side but not by last seasons schedule.  Rutgers comes at the right time.  Practice will be most thorough this week + a day.

On offense, caused us issues. Chip Kelly... But Bryant was very ready for what Chip started with. Kelly did better in the second half.

A ton of the problem was mistakes, punt allowed over our head for an extra 20, couple key holds, a late kickoff drop. If we get to Chiles on a couple of those big plays, they aren't big plays... It's tough for a secondary to cover guys that long especially when they have to come up to tackle. Keep him in the pocket a bit more and they would have been very tough throws instead of easy ones.

Good team. I'm excited that we can clean up mistakes. We weren't 'out talented' or out coached. Just not our best, much due to a good staff and some talent on the other side, but also mistakes.

If Northwestern goes and beats Penn State next week, they likely will be 6-1 when they play Oregon.

Ithink we dont know if NW is just better than last year or if they're a legitimate team competing for thr conference.  If they happen to run through their schedule, suddenly we'll look back at this game and see it as a great win.
