I’m not worried or necessarily surprised by any of the outcomes so far. Now, if we struggle just as much against Minnesota next week then I’ll start to worry. A little bit…
Minnesota beat a good Iowa team today, so we definitely can't look past them. Still, and to your point, next Saturday's game hopefully won't be as much of a nailbiter as today's was.
I don't know that we can look past anyone left on the schedule ... we aren't scoring a lot of points which theoretically keeps anyone in the game. Stranger things have happened..
Production > Potentialwe’d honestly be better off next season trusting that a QB they’ve recruited and trained is actually capable of playing for them than spending big on a transfer. And instead deploy those dollars into OL as needed. Because we are losing at least 4 starters.
We'll have an experienced QB next year, one way or another. It won't be Cherry bc Cherry has no experience and even sat out a year.
Just a cardiac game.
Great to see so much crimson and black in the dump stadium. !5 K easily
Were they making any noise? Couldn't tell from tv.
Cherry should be a to coach our offense by now, much less just play in it.It won't be Cherry bc Cherry has no experience and even sat out a year.
He was injured. But it's his third year. Fortunately at least what little we have seen he moves pretty good. Heard the injury was quite significant. So that's great that he looks like he healed well.
I don't disagree with that in principle. But I would argue that:
1) Why would a HS QB ever commit to us if he requires experience to play? Banking on starter injuries? At some point, if you're trying to build a program you have to be able to recruit/train/prepare and not just go portal. Cooper, Becker, Jones, Hardy, Carter Smith, Bray Lynch, Katic, Khobe. All guys that came in from HS and earned their spots. Granted, QB is a unique position. But if we never start someone we brought in out of HS I really hope it's because of what the coaches see in practice and not purely on their college level production.
2) We could have the second coming of Peyton Manning and it won't do us much good behind poor blocking.
That's fair, but why does it matter if we ever get a HS QB to commit, unless we have a QB injury (which is certainly possible)? How many straight years has Cig gone after a transfer QB to start? However many years it's been, it's worked 100% of the time. And I could see that streak being broken if we had a QB developing who was in their 3rd or 4th year in the program, but that's not the case.I don't disagree with that in principle. And we haven't had a poor OL in 3 years, so I have faith we won't have a poor OL next year either, even though we have to replace more than we have had to so far.
Being able to coach the offense and being able to execute the offense are not the same thing. The kid literally didn't put a helmet on last year. To suggest he's a 3rd year player in any normal sense of what it means to be a 3rd year player is just not an accurate assessment.Cherry should be a to coach our offense by now, much less just play in it.It won't be Cherry bc Cherry has no experience and even sat out a year.
