I wasn't able to watch the game. Just looking at the box score, I'd have to assume Hoover is hurt. If so, that leads me to believe Cig has zero faith in Cherry. Was the running game completely inept? I could see throwing the ball sparingly if they'd lost faith in Hoover but just once? I can't see any other reason to keep him in other than having zero faith in Cherry.
Cherry is 3rd on the depth chart.
Cignetti got just what he needed out of a less than a 100% Hoover in AA. The biggest benefit was the rushing attack got tons of quality work against a decent defense.
Why would Cignetti put Tyler Cherry in? I got into a discussion with another outlet at halftime about the QB situation and putting Wilson in because Hoover looked like he physically could not throw the ball. He went on about Wilson being a 7th year guy just there to coach and that if any one would enter the game to throw it’d be Tyler Cherry.
i said, and I’ll say it here again, Tyler Cherry has not played in almost two years. He’s seen the field in two games for IU since 2024. Why the hell would Cherry be the choice?

I am very happy that we pulled out the W. First win there on over 50 years. Obviously we have issues, but so nice to get the win.
Limped through with an injured QB. Defense was very good and Cig kept relying on them.
Wilson looked good in his limited minutes. I agree Cherry is not near ready and he probably won't even be ready next year. Cig will be looking for a QB in the portal again this year.

To be fair, Cherry threw just 1 less pass than Hoover in the 2nd half yesterday...but Hoovers 1 pass was an INT. Grant Wilson has played a lot of football and proven he doesn't have it. I think thats why people are more apt to go with the unknown as opposed to the alternative. I'm not saying I agree becauseI trust Cigs logic. I'm just saying thats where people making that claim are likely coming from.
@yothn Cherry is the third-string quarterback. Wilson was ready to go if needed. Sure, Cherry had a great HS career, but that is meaningless in 2026. Throwing him in at Michigan in a high-leverage situation is malpractice. I get people want him to succeed, and he's done an admirable job working his way back from a devastating injury, but Grant Wilson is the back up QB. It's been clear since spring ball that was the case even though most of the beat didn't agree with me.

I doubt Cherry sees meaningful snaps at IU. It's unfortunate, but that seems to be the case. Once they went to Wilson in the early blowouts, it was clear Cherry wasn't ready. Now, we don't get to see practice in season, but it'd be really hard to justify handing the reins to Cherry and not going after a starting caliber QB in the portal.
They'll need 2 portal QBs as well with Hoover and Wilson moving on.

for all those who want to rag on Josh Hoover just remember....

until Cig or he says he can't go he is our QB
Of course IU isn't going with a QB next season who's currently on the roster. I know nothing and don't pay attention to rumors, but it's fun to speculate. Maybe Atkinson (Oregon State) or Kienholz (Louisville).

Arch or Bust!
we’d honestly be better off next season trusting that a QB they’ve recruited and trained is actually capable of playing for them than spending big on a transfer. And instead deploy those dollars into OL as needed. Because we are losing at least 4 starters.
Maybe this is why I keep hearing put Cherry in. I haven't kept track of the depth chart. Now, if you're going to just hand it off every play like OSU did with Sayin's backup then you might as well stick with Hoover. At that point, you have the element of surprise with the option of Hoover throwing vs a backup not.
A win is a win is a win is a win. We are 7-1 with 3 extremely difficult games out of the way. Still in charge of our destiny. Everything is right in the world today. Go Hoosiers
master of our domain
beat the gophers
@auburnhoosier Cig said postgame that Josh should be physically getting better every day from that point forward (Saturday). So we will see. Despite some other outlets views on Wilson, he’s very capable of throwing the ball and running it himself as well.
