A screen shot of a police report was made public on X tonight that IU DL Tyrone Burrus had been arrested on strangulation charges.
An IU Spokesman said “IU Athletics is aware of the situation. We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.”

That stinks. If guilty, his days on the team are likely drawing to an end
@hurryinghoosiers Agreed. There should be a hard line on this once all the facts come to light.

Disappointing. If any of this is true, it’s the first player issue we’ve had in what feels like a long time.
Just sad for everyone involved. Violence is never the answer. At the same time, there's always 2 sides to story so until proven otherwise, I trust Cig's judgement of a player's character based on all the facts. I don't see him as someone to give lenience purely based on one's talent.

For those on X calling this fake news, here is another source.

@tammany I think obviously the staff has had to deal with player issues... but for sure one like this, that will end up being very high profile. They've done an incredible job of managing the first two groups of 100+ young men, on a campus with as many temptations as Bloomington, without many reported incidents. But even Cig can't control everything, it'll be interesting from the team perspective how this one plays out.
Most importantly, I hope this isn't as serious as it sounds, and I hope all parties involved end up being treated fairly and justly.
@myteamisonthefloor All the facts need to be sorted out first. Once that happens than an informed decision can be made. All for second chances, but it doesn't mean it has to be at IU.

Agreed, but …
I struggle with dumping a kid before they get “due process” in the courthouse. Suspending a guy from a year of games, but keeping him under your thumb until we know everything - and seeing if he is salvageable as a human - is OK with me.
Knuckleheads can get the boot ASAP.
@myteamisonthefloor There is more to come out later today, it seems. As a child of two defense attorneys, of course, everyone should get their day in court.

@myteamisonthefloor - I get what you're saying. What I will say is often times coach is getting intimate information on the situation directly from the player himself. Sometimes it's an egregious mistake that the player admits to that doesn't require a path of court approval or denial of some charge/s.
Everyone deserves their right in court to prove themselves innocent in a court of law of whatever charges are filed, but when it comes to a cfball program, it's not always just about being innocent or guilty of specific charges that were filed. It's about what took place and whether or not that aligns with the expectations of the program. For all we know, there could've been many other things leading up to this (just an example, its not based on ANYTHING....Burrus could truly be a saint for all I know).
So as fans, we rely on the judgement/ruling of our coaches and when you have someone like Cig who has proven he has a strong moral compass, we should agree with his decision. If ever he were to give us reason to question his decision making, Ala gets in a bike wreck with a mistress like Bobby Petrino.... Then yes, I get questioning every decision. With Cig, I currently give him full reign and trust any decision he makes will be in the best interest of everyone involved (player, victim, program..etc).
Just posted an updated. No charges filed at the time of release this afternoon.

This is weird. Are we to act like nothing happened? Cig and company still have a quandary on their hands.
I wouldn’t question Cig’s decision - no matter what.
But as a lawyer, I’d do my best not to let the school’s decision “create” bad evidence against my client, and might even argue (under the current legal environment the schools/NCAA face) that a “state actor” (even an athletic department) had a higher duty than in the past to assure due process (courts are giving student athletes all kinds of unexpected “rights” these days.
A guy beating up a girl deserves what he gets - even though that’s an old-fashioned “cis-sexist” view to some these days.
2 kids being dumb and fighting each other for dumb reasons is different.
False allegations (rare but possible) are even more compelling.
Schools must proceed with extreme care, and often must make decisions without being allowed to be “fully informed.”

I trust Cig and Doldon unequivocally.
