Grim. No gambling on your sport, especially on your own team, is a basic rule important for the integrity of any league.
I really hope the NCAA can win on appeal.
@tammany I hope so too, because even in leagues with zero rules, betting on your team is the one thing that's unforgivable

So if he's ruled ineligible after the season then the NCAA vacates all of Texas Tech's wins (An awesome run to the semis! Finally losing to Indiana, although the sour grapes from the Texas Tech fans is that Sorsby was point shaving in that semifinal.) I suppose some judge will make them go to court and fight over the vacated wins too.
I guess anyone deserves their day in court, but playing football doesn't seem like a constitutionally protected status, and he admitted he broke all the rules. (And laws.) Weird!
@openwheel It's a shocking ruling, which will cause him irreparable harm if he is ruled ineligible. This will get appealed and hopefully overturned. The rule on betting is pretty damn clear; it's not like the eligibility cases.

Apparently the NCAA isn't allowed to have any rules.
What is next? Unfair to prevent players from taking steroids?

Well, something like a drug suspension could cause “irreparable harm.” Sounds injunction worthy! Get that player back on the field.
Dolson needs to join Nebraska and UGA. Both of those schools already announced that they will not schedule any games with TTU, and are looking into cancelling any set games (for all sports, not just football)
If enough P4 teams do this, the TTU AD will feel it. Unbelievably brazen that they are supporting, from the top down, a guy who bet the *under* on his own team

Unfortunately the appeal is set for February, which means Sorsby is free to play the season. Nothing anyone can do about it, except TTU removing him from their team.
Looks like the B1G is about to blackball TTU in all sports. Glad our conference is stepping up to lead the way
This isnt a empty thing either. TTU has had some marquee basketball matches with B1G teams in recent years, and their softball program is a powerhouse.

In the not-too-distant future...
Coaches: "Judge, this player literally killed someone ... and it was caught on camera and witnessed by multiple people."
Judge: "But he's really, really sorry. And he's taking positive steps--he hasn't killed anyone in six months and saw a therapist once--so I'm granting an immediate injunction so he can play."
Coaches: "What if he murders someone on the field?"
Judge: "Then he'll get ejected and miss the rest of the game and the first half of the next. That's punishment enough."
Which is exactly what they should do. Once the chatter gets louder and donors start pulling money, they'll have little recourse.Nothing anyone can do about it, except TTU removing him from their team.
Then again, it's lawless Texas ... more money will probably flow into the coffers. That state birthed the "Pony Express," after all.
Cody Campbell has really gotten himself tied up here.
He claims to want to clean up college football, save the sport. Now that his guy is benefiting from the courts, he's going to look like a real hypocrite if he supports this.
If I'm Hunter Dekker, I'm going nuts.
One would think that facing a blackball across all athletics by a significant number of member NCAA institutions would compel the TT President and elected board to take redeemable action.
