In the pre-NIL days this was pretty cut and dried but I’m with G.L. on this one in today’s NIL environment… I mean the reality is that like it or not, today’s players are already getting paid so technically they are already pros…
In my opinion, the NCAA massively screwed up when they didn’t retroactively grandfather the entire 2022 class into the 5 for 5 ruling…
Like M.G. said above however, “life’s not fair”… Anyone who doubts that adage need only peruse the NCAA rulings over the past 50 years… If there’s a way to screw the student athlete they’ll find it and implement it…, and if there’s a way to ignore real cheating they’ve perfected the art…
Anybody else believe so much of this sloppiness could have been avoided if we just would have played through COVID and not given the entire college athletic landscape that extra season?
@thehoosierhuddle the SEC knows they can’t compete at NIL level with richer B1G and ACC schools. Their clock is ticking. This is their new way of cheating.
Texas, Texas A&M, OU, Arkansas, LSU and Ole Miss have very formidable NIL sources. Alabama, Tennessee, UF do, too. Even Mizzou has access to Walton family money that is pretty impressive.
@jackskip23 The issue is coaching and stockpiling depth. Teams can't really have a 5-star third string OL sitting on the bench to pull out of their butt when their other 5 stars get dinged.

Agree. Guys who sit aren’t willing to wait their turn, and there are plenty of ear whisperers who tell them that there are greener pastures somewhere / anywhere else. Annual college free agency isn’t good for the long term health of college sports, in my opinion. Collective bargaining will address that.@jackskip23 The issue is coaching and stockpiling depth.
