First off, I think these 2022 guys are getting jobbed, so I don't really have an issue with them returning if they were undrafted and got cut. At the time of the draft, they had no option of coming back to play CFB, because the 5/5 rule wasn't implemented until May.
Second, if you parse the words of the B1G statement, I don't know that it precludes the TE reportedly headed to LSU from doing exactly what he's about to do but do it at a B1G school. He wasn't drafted. He never signed a contract. What does appearing on a roster mean? A regular season roster? A preseason roster? A training camp roster?
So, I don't agree with the decision, because I think this is a 1-yr issue because of the 2022 class getting screwed and I don't know that the statement is actually very strong, unless I'm just ignorant to what being on a 'roster' means.

I agree the 2022 class got screwed and the NCAA really fudged this by announcing late and not grandfathering that group in, but if you signed any pro contract, you should be done.

I think that's fair (signing a contract), but to my knowledge, the guys talking about returning to SEC schools didn't sign contracts. Of course, like most NFL contracts, it wasn't guaranteed, but I guess that's neither here nor there in this conversation. I'm not sure it changes my opinion much. Undrafted free agents get signed. Not for a lot, but they put their John Hancock on a professional contract, if they are to play in the preseason or even in training camp, I think.

I have been listening to podcasts on this topic and here is one thing I still don’t understand. They seem to be saying that these players are going to start suing the B1G and SEC for prohibiting them playing, but do those players even have a case even with the TRO? From what I can tell they are not directly banning the players. Meaning they are not threatening punishment on the players. They are threatening punishment on the institutions. If those players still want to play college sports they can choose to go to a school that’s in a conference that can accept them. I would assume that’s not in the P4. I don’t see how a court can force an institution to accept them if they don’t want their coach suspended half the season. Since the punishment will go to the schools and the coaches and not the players can anyone have a case against a conference for coming out and saying they will punish schools who accept them? Can they argue it as a form of discrimination? I’m not sure how else they can argue they are directly targeted if there is no punishment focused directly on them. They have not said these players if accepted are suspended for the entire season. I get there could be an antitrust component to this, but I’m not a legal expert and don’t understand if such a case holds any weight.
on one hand I feel strongly that any player who was on an NFL roster should not be allowed to come back, but on the other hand I empathize with the players as they didn’t know coming back was an option. I blame the NCAA for creating this and not the players. With this being a one year issue I’m not that concerned about it other than I don’t like they all are going to LSU to play for Kiffin. If they were going to different schools or at least the school they were enrolled last year I would be more open to the idea of this one time exception.
@olympian97 with tonight’s stay in Tennessee, it seems like the courts will sidewith the NCAA. The conferences are closing loop holes for “pros” returning.
