This makes me sick to my stomach. I hope it absolutely blows up in their faces. 3x-4x increases in prices, plus forced gifts and licensing fees.
Imagine paying that to see Penn State play. That program has failed their loyal fans almost as much as Nebraska has.

Surprising their fans with this giant price increase is a bad strategy for many reasons.
With that big of price increase I wonder if they can sell out that huge stadium. They’re literally in the middle of nowhere and for a lot of fans it takes quite a bit of effort to drive in. Once their season went sideways last year there were many empty seats. Now fans are getting bent over on tickets. This may go poorly.

Would be interesting to see if shaking your fan base down for money to come to games ends up decreasing NIL donations.
Penn State just underwent massive stadium renovations, so I don't understand the shock that tickets went up. Seems like the least surprising thing ever. With that said, it's a lesson that these schools either don't learn or don't want to learn. Pricing out your loyal fan base never, ever turns out well.
I have seen posts on X about how people who have had season tickets for decades say they need to have discussions about whether or not to renew.
At some point people are going to be like, 'Nah, I am going to watch on my couch'.
IU has started to do the same thing: multiple reseats, price increases with a mandatory donation and then a reorganization of parking passes. It does not sit well with many who have been there forever. IU needed to increase ticket prices, but doing it two years in a row is a gut punch. We'll see what happens.

Imo what Pat should have done is layout well in advance that price increases were coming and why and what they’re gonna do with the money. And that increase is just too much.
As for IU, I’m using AI and it says tickets prices are around 30-60% higher now than 2023. It stinks, but the unprecedented program transformation makes it pretty palatable… games are about 1,000% more fun now. That said… the increases need to slow down now.
I give them credit for communicating the specifics of the increase now, versus during the normal renewal window, which is probably similar to ours, Jan-April or whenever. But the % increase is just ridiculous.

My younger brother is in far far better shape financially than I will ever be. He's bought the mini-season ticket packages for several years, but this year is taking a pass. My parents weren't here to see the Allen and Cig successes, but they were among the hard core 20K who bought season tickets year in and year out since the 60s. They might have been able to afford them now, but knowing my dad I'm sure he would have told them to get fucked after they'd been so loyal all these years.
