@jackskip23 I think they mean less but IU is unbelievably behind. I’m sure(hope) they do have a plan. I think IU football is a unicorn though. I’m sure if cig has a problem with anything he will be very vocal about it. Not that he hasn’t been. Did I say I was shocked? 😝

Cignetti doesn’t need to publicly voice any of this to get Dolson’s attention, but he knows we need to upgrade certain facilities pretty quickly. A bunch of pro scouts were in the MP last week for Pro Day, and they’re in other college facilities all the time. They notice. Everyone who sees ours compared to other’s notices.

Mellencamp has already had a bunch of work done to it recently.

Yes. Even with that, we’re well off the pace of other top programs.

@tammany why can’t it be that he’s a unicorn? He is I think. I wouldn’t say it’s completely awful but it isn’t nearly as good. Will it matter? I’d say it might.

Because that explanation doesn't make sense.

If our facilities were a serious issue he would have left.

@tammany when did I say it was a big issue? I only said we are behind. Is it a big issue? Don’t know. It could be. It was an observation from me and a few guys(who see more). I was just shocked how much better. That’s all. It was fun walking around. My wife had a blast. My son is a huge football fan. Really fun seeing him geek out.

@d-b-cooper I just don't see how it "could be" a big issue given what's happened.

And yea, we need to keep upgrading.

Geeking out is great, but not at slimy UM.  This is an IU board you know.

@tammany well he did wear his IU gear. This was the recruiting closet. Sorry for sharing. I’ll consult everyone next time.

again, was i being a bit hyperbolic with my ymca statement? of course, but i would argue that iu is going to lose recruits to nil dollars exponentially more than because of a practice facility.

I'm confused. Do we back up the Brinks truck to the coaches' and players' banks, or do we back it up to the facilities contractors?

And before one of you wise guys responds with...

IU spent $86 million building the North and South Endzones, and that figure has not been adjusted for inflation. It also spent several million renovating the lockerroom, players’ lounge, and Mellencamp. Are they supposed to shell out $100 million for other stuff as well?

I’d guess the next round of new football facility stuff will be in the West stand renovation IU hired HOK to look at.  Anything they want to add on to the existing facilities in the end zones could be done as part of this.  We like to build stuff into the stadium.

Tbd though.

I'll just go by Cig's first day where he ripped Dolson for the 1970s look of the offices, and then says he got a phone call from his staff during his car ride up to Indy. Staff had toured the facilities and said "It's NICE!" per Cignetti. Granted they were coming from JMU. But supposedly we quickly pumped in another nice chunk of money into the weight room to get stuff Owings requested.

So judging that Cig re-signed, instead of bailing for any of a half a dozen top tier jobs which he could've snapped his fingers and had in the past two years, I'll guess we are in pretty good shape with whatever plans the admin has. As Cignetti has commented in the past that always more to do to keep up but the plans are in place.

I don't think we will keep up with the top few or even top third third of the SEC and Big Ten, some are insane... LOL But if we have reasonably nice stuff, we'll be more than fine. Shows what a winning coach can do over just top flight facilities without the right staff.
