Pawn Sacrifice. Toby McGuire as a crazy Bobby Fischer was well cast and terrific. Liev Schreiber as Spasski was almost as good. The flick lost millions.
Bobby Fischer probably was crazy at that point. He got me interested in chess and I joined my middle school chess team.Pawn Sacrifice. Toby McGuire as a crazy Bobby Fischer was well cast and terrific. Liev Schreiber as Spasski was almost as good. The flick lost millions.
Another genre, but the original Predator should be on the list too.
Maybe I'm being picky, but a movie that has literally produced 8 sequels doesn't really fit the description of underrated.

Night of the Comet is awesome. Totally agree with you. Catherine Mary Stewart was the belle of the ball in that movie. She also starred in another woefully underrated movie-Weekend at Bernies. She's on my bucket list. @goat Pam Bondi is not on my bucket list, so she is all yours
Shoving carrramrod into a locker since 2024.
Speaking of Pam Bondi, my favorite porn thriller is Spam and Bondage.
We've done this one before, and my answer is the same now as then: The Passion of the Christ.
Is it the greatest film ever? No. But it's extremely well done, and the 50% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes is a travesty.
That's wasn't a movie, that was a snuff film.

Crucifixion was an extremely violent and unpleasant experience. It's a theme artists have explored for centuries, but hasn't usually been easily accessible to more modern audiences. The film fills a void by hitting you over the head with the brutal reality of Jesus' death. The critics who dismissed it as a "snuff film" missed the point entirely.
Also, they were technically incorrect, which is the worst kind of incorrect, considering that Jim Caviezel is still very much alive.

Meh. Everybody I know considers it one of the top sci-fi action movies of all time.
Now, if you had said Predator 2 as being underrated, there you would have my attention.
Ive never seen Passion, and that is by deliberate choice. I’m sure it was well done. But my religious interests are entirely focused on what came next. BTW, there is a sequel in the works. I’ll see that.
