@gros-louis no real football only facilities. The setup is very clunky at IU. IU’s biggest revenue driver in sports has never done a football only upgrade. Always includes all sports. At some point this will be addressed. My comments are a simple observation on how far behind. That’s it. He doesn’t need to ask if he’s been to other facilities in the B1G. Disagreeing is perfectly fine.
F the other sports doesn't make the facilities any better. We do have more than 1 sport at IU.
And I highly doubt the football team uses all of their facilities 24/7.
Yeah, that's my thing. Football has #1 priority over the facilities that they use. It's not like rowing kicks football out or some crap like that.@gros-louis no real football only facilities. It is pretty easy to say IU’s facilities are behind. Unless you have the kind of money to give to make the upgrades, or you know someone that is holding out on us then this to me is pretty disingenuous. Do you think for a minute that IU would not upgrade their football facilities if someone had the money to donate that would not effect the coaches salasries or NIL money? Come on man.@thehoosierhuddle true. It is pretty tough. I’m not arguing with the priorities just stating how far behind IU is. It was pretty shocking really.
IU is still comparatively limited in their funds and they have to make very careful decisions on where to spend the millions they get through the donation arm. I think they have by and large made good decisions. They do upgrade some things but until more big money comes in than they need for the other things they will not be able to match Michigan or Tennessee. In facilities. Just not going to happen.
Nothing false or disingenuous about it. It’s the reality. Any fair assessment would have us in the bottom third of the Big Ten and the bottom half of the P4. Not saying it will ever get into the top 25% of either group, but we need to get into the top half for sure. The current NIL and revenue sharing model, along with the portal situation, will evolve, and facilities will continue to play a key role in getting and keeping players.
@jackskip23 and I didn’t say we need to match. It’s like the minute I said we were behind etc…everyone went to the extreme. I’m not saying IU needs to fork out 100 plus million for completely new facilities. It was just shocking and Michigan isn’t close to the best either.
@gros-louis but why have the conflict at all? I’ll tell you. IU has been cheap over the previous 20 plus years. Many reasons that encompass cheap too.

We need a rolling Capital Improvement Program that includes both stadium and facilities upgrades. I’ve been to UM and, while nice, there are definitely better. Nebraska’s are better, and they’re throwing a ton of money to update them. Go to Iowa City. Even Purdue’s facility is well ahead of ours. People may think facilities matter less in the current NIL/Revenue Sharing/Portal world, but we’d be crazy to think this scenario will be the norm forever. Facilities will always matter, and we shouldn’t sit on our hands and wait any longer.
@jackskip23 I think they mean less but IU is unbelievably behind. I’m sure(hope) they do have a plan. I think IU football is a unicorn though. I’m sure if cig has a problem with anything he will be very vocal about it. Not that he hasn’t been. Did I say I was shocked? 😝
@d-b-cooper Which I guess makes the job Cig and company are doing even more impressive. Besides our awful past record, our facilities are nothing to write home about either.
Damn, I can’t believe Cig stayed at IU given our awful facilties. 🙄
Because when you don't have the money, you have to be smart about how you use it. And there is no conflict when it comes to football. None. Zero. Zilch. Conflict between soccer and volleyball? Yeah. Not with football.@gros-louis but why have the conflict at all? I’ll tell you. IU has been cheap over the previous 20 plus years. Many reasons that encompass cheap too.
Yes the fond memories of Sherrone Moore shine bright in their FB history. Proving snazzy stuff earns you zip.

Cignetti doesn’t need to publicly voice any of this to get Dolson’s attention, but he knows we need to upgrade certain facilities pretty quickly. A bunch of pro scouts were in the MP last week for Pro Day, and they’re in other college facilities all the time. They notice. Everyone who sees ours compared to other’s notices.
@tammany why can’t it be that he’s a unicorn? He is I think. I wouldn’t say it’s completely awful but it isn’t nearly as good. Will it matter? I’d say it might.
@hoosier-clarion as bad as that was Michigan has them a coach. He’s going to do well imho. That game is going to be tough. Hope I can talk my nephew into a ticket. I am his favorite uncle. 😝

Michigan got it right with Whittingham. He was easily one of the top coaches in the conference from the minute he was hired.
