Maybe just maybe they are pretty good!!
They are a very good football team.
Virginia Tech is putred. That said I'd say ODU is not a cupcake
The Va. Tech game solidified for me what I suspected after our game against ODU: They're probably gonna win the Sun Belt and we may just be their only loss.
@812jmac they’ll be in the running for sure. There are some very solid teams in the SBC.
On their forum ODU fans were fairly down after our game. Saying they thought they'd compete in the Sun Belt but now looks like probably not. Many negative posts. Finally a poster noted 'Indiana is probably good. They had that top ten defense last year, a good offense too, so maybe we will be OK' . That reminder seemed to make many feel better.
And I thought 'yeah, maybe neither team played their best game, but you guys showed some talent.'
Nothing against VT, but glad ODU won that one fairly strong.

I was looking forward to seeing how they played in their next game. It was obvious, early in the KSU game, that KSU was not going to be the same kind of challenge, which made me suspect that ODU was better than we expected coming in.
I mean, you look at SBC schools and they can give teams fits. JMU played Louisville respectably. Arkansas State had an 8 point loss to Iowa State. Troy kept it to an 11 point game at Clemson. These are not just woodshed beatings.
My understanding: other than two 70+ plays, ODU didn't snap the ball in our territory. Score deceiving but news too lazy to research. Pretty sure we're really good and Mendoza is a stud possible 1st rounder. Looked great in person. Passed the eye test.
Yeah we dominated them thoroughly.Their two big runs count though. I'd say the ODU QB was in Indiana territory for about, oh, 50 yards. Twice. Should he have taken a knee to get that stat? But they were never in the game not long after the first one.
So yeah, by the time the game was over the fact they hadnt been in our end was solid. Impressed me. Because I thought it seemed they had some weapons.
Media isnt going to give credit for beating Old Dominion though, even if they dig deeper. If we were Notre Dame sure, then we''d hear how tough they are. But that doesnt matter much. It was a nice opening win.
@openwheel If they continue to win, and end the season say 11-1, with a big win at Va Tech... they might be ranked, and that win will help IU if they're in CFP contention. Might even get Herbstreit to say that ODU win is a "sneaky good win"?!...while he's slobbering all over Bama's 3 "elite" losses, obviously.
I really like this ODU team. They’re a fun watch. As a site we were on them being good in July
It would seem the ODU head coach/staff will be in demand by seasons end.

one poster asked why they schedule games against better teams.
It garnered a reply that they schedule games well in advance when IU wasn't a good team.
A distinct possibility but mid majors don't schedule games against Power 4 teams to get wins. They're scheduling them because they're getting paid. And I'm guessing tough non-con games help a lot with funding the program.
