Maryland fired Locksley
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
Not surprised he was fired, but assumed he'd make it to the end of the season.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

Any word on Shane Steichen?
@hooky I thought it'd happen, but not after he fired his DC on Monday. I thought they'd wait until the end of the year. I don't think either of IU's coordinators would jump at this job if offered.

@thehoosierhuddle Same. I assumed canning his DC was a sacrificail offering to get him to the end of next month. I did see a report that the interim is the other Co-DC Rahim, who had only coached HS ball prior to joining the terps.

This is more than HS ball

It’s a terrible job.
This is a bright neon no brainer. Locksley is and always has been a terrible HC. The firing convinces me they've confidently targeted their next HC.
One of the three worst jobs in the Big Ten. Maryland, Michigan State, and Rutgers. I'd even put Purdue ahead of those, well, maybe about tied with M. State. Maryland used to be competitive in sports, even football, same with Michigan State and even Rutgers. They all seem broke financially now though. I would think Michigan State will come back the soonest in football, at least they have a history and some support.
But, some decent coaches will take the job because it's better money then they can earn elsewhere in their profession. And if they out-perform, who knows.

I'd go with Maryland being the only terrible BT job. Primarily because their stadium sucks & they still feel like an ACC team after all these years in the BT, and the fan base is therefore not engaged. My #2 would probably be Minnesota, because of the cold, fan disinterest, and lack of in-state talent. #3 would be Rutgers. #4 would probably be Purdue. They've been pretty good in the past and they have a very loyal fan base. Michigan State is not a bad job imo.
I've seen an internet rumor that Chip Kelly may be their choice, fwiw.
Michigan State shouldn’t be that bad of a job.
Pretty good resources there. 75K seat stadium.
They are down and do need to get their admin in shape but they are no MD, Rutgers, Purdue…

MD is also in terrible shape financially, which is huge.....I will add though, in their favor they did once win a NC (I think in '52). That's at least something. If you don't think so, ask a Purdue basketball or football fan.
Oh yeah, I forgot about reading recently that Michigan State had some significant donor funding coming in. I was surprised when they showed the coming facilities renderings. The acres of concrete positively glowed.
After they fired The Tugger and then Jonathan Smith, all I was hearing was laments on not having money. Thought that was why it seemed to me that they settled for Fitzgerald. So I guess that was all from fan whines, still in my head.
Should end up a decent job for football then.
I always think of Minnesota as a good job... They sunk a lot of money into facilities about the time they hired Fleck. Actually been surprised they haven't won more. But they have, or had, funded the program.
@mushroomgod I’d be surprised if Kelly takes that job. He hated being a head coach. He just wants to be a play caller..at least that’s what’s been reported numerous times anyway.
edit:sounds like it’s Brian Kelly not chip kelly.
