IU Gameday Operations is still a work in progress

Having attended three of the four games STD:

Traffic ingress is "ok" although tailgate visitors tell us it is gridlock south of the stadium getting into and out of the pass lots.  Noon games make this process worse.  I don't love 8 pm games for different reasons...give me the 3 pm slot.  Some tailgate visitors from the columbus/I65 entry talked about construction on 46 being a pain.

Fans complained after the initial "hot" game about lack of ice and water access in the heat. Those things were improved, but so did the temp.

Sat evening, fans headed to the stadium as we always have...at the last minute. Can't do that any more as limited scanners made the situation a mess and frankly dangerous as thousands of people pressed forward to get in at every gate. There were literally parts of three people in the scanner with me at the same time, it was awful and rendered the screening process pointless. IU needs to double the number of scanners and fans need to walk up 15 - 20 minutes earlier.  Learning curve for fans here as well.

Increased port-o-lets in and outside the stadium have helped, but bathrooms and concessions are still insufficient. The coming upgrades will fix that hopefully by next season.  The PA system is awful depending where you are sitting.

IU, state traffic control and we fans will get better.

BTW, the drone show Friday was cool.

I've only ever had one game where I had an issue getting into the lots, getting out of them has been for the most part a hot mess.  They really don't have a great plan on how to move that many people away from the stadium, especially when the crowd stays to the end.

That's a case of having parking that's TOO GOOD.  Bloomington isn't very big and our parking, by and large, is VERY close to our venue.  Getting that many vehicles away from the stadium all at the same time is never going to go too smoothly.  I've not been to another college venue with the percentage of parking close to the venue that we have. Blessing/curse.

I’m not sure, but I tend to think they could push more people south to the 3rd street exit.  It’s usually pretty light traffic and doesn’t take long to get there.

I think it’s helpful to push traffic away from the venue in all directions, even if some cars aren’t taking the shortest route home (usually north for most people).

Part of it is definitely so many people crammed close to the stadium… it’s just never going to be easy to leave.  If you're not tailgating and willing/able to walk 25 minutes, you can park in town for free or $1/hr and there is almost no traffic in or out -- it's quite convenient really.

Going south is counterintuitive for people heading north (which is most) but it works just fine.

The gate walk in process sucks, but as I’ve learned, it mostly sucks at any game anymore! Getting into the Colts games has become a terrible process. Many Older people don’t know how to use their phones to scan their tickets! With phones that have no wifi or cell reception, that holds people up and the lines get longer! I get the security issues, but ffs, go back to the paper tear-off tickets! I have a box full of memories that are paper-tickets! I can’t add to that anymore.

Agreed, the security line is prior to the scanning line and has been the real bottleneck.
