As champions we have a bullseye on our back anyway, so I'm fine with being out of the top spot.  #6 seems a little weak, but I guess any time you have a new-to-you QB then there will be doubts.

@kelly_32 Nah, horseshit actually serves a purpose as fertilizer.

Everything can't be a thing. Are the people voting for IU at 9th or 14th off? Yes, but every little slight has become a thing for some in the fan base and those who cover the team. It's amazing to see people who absolutely crapped on the football program for years, now get upset when someone else does it.

It was less than 5 years ago when certain folks wanted IU to move to the MAC and divert all funds to hoops.

IU has some twitter warriors that are annoying and I block them.

Every fanbase has them.  They’re tiresome.

It may not be the same folks in the fan base getting mad that we are being slighted as those who thought IU football should give up and move to the MAC.  Fan bases often include fans of differing opinions.  It's like people on facebook accusing IU fans of being fair-weather even though there were obviously many who were fans prior to being good (even if they didn't attend very many games).   Even some fans grow tired of watching a team lose.  Anyway, it is easy to just lump an entire fan-base as being the same.

As for preseason polls, I think it illustrates how worthless preseason polls.  People who can't get past their biases are ranking team.  I'd also be interested in seeing the breakdown of SEC fan boys/ESPN rankings and everyone else's rankings.

I would've rather seen them drop us out of the top 10.  Anything to get this team angry will only help the cause.  I do think we will climb 1-3 spots before we play Ohio State on 10/17, just based on the other teams schedules.

Looking at the games below, before we play OSU on 10/17, we should be #4 or #5..... ND is a lock to be unbeaten still. One of OSU and TX will fall below IU, if not both (depending on outcomes of the other games they each play).  Oregon is likely to still be unbeaten but they have a tough game at USC. Georgia has a couple tough games as well.

Before 10/17:

#1 OSU - at #4 Texas and at #22 Iowa

#2 Oregon - vs Boise St; at #14 USC

#3 Georgia - vs #10 Oklahoma; at #13 Alabama

#4 Texas - vs #1 OSU; at #20 Tennessee; vs. #10 Oklahoma

#5 Notre Dame - Plays NAIC teams all season

@hurryinghoosiers IU had the same 30,000 people show up for decades to support football and those people are amazing and one of the reasons I created this place in 2013. I would assume these are not the active IU fans on X or most of social media.

Their faith was rewarded in the best way possible.

There are the new fans, which there will always be new fans, that seem to be up in arms over perceived disrespect. Happens everywhere. However, they are so easily baited into arguments; it's tiring.

Then you have the people who took dumps on the program and now are upset that Notre Dame or SEC fans say anything negative. Those are the most annoying.

Fandom is a wide spectrum, but I do find it hilarious that most of the people who are the most upset are the ones who largely crapped on IUFB pre-Cig.

To me, there's a major difference between being a fan who is tired of losing and being frustrated and showing that with you wallet and saying that Indiana should drop football altogether with a straight face.

We have all said, "That's it! I am (insert expletive here) done with this" and then came back and watched the next game at some point. I know because I am one of them.

I just chuckle when certain people stomp their feet in tantrum on social media or other podcasts.

As far as preseason polls. They are fun, a great discussion and as long as the voters are not stubbornly tied to their preseason rankings, just fine.

Agree, but Twitter isn't real life.  I have to remind myself of that frequently.  And sometimes it's fun to jump into the fray and beat down Dinich or talk shit at SEC fan or ND fan, who still doesn't believe in the Hoosiers.

It's entertainment.

@gros-louis Heather is an awkward person. I met her at media days and tried talking about IU and her time there, just seemed very dismissive

Right, that’s fine.

The context I had in mind from earlier in this thread was getting big mad over little slights… such as ranking IU #6 or predicting IU goes under 10.5 wins and goes 10-2.  Getting bent out of shape over that is silly.

In my Lou Holtz voice...

I'm tellin you, those Rice Owls have some talent. They have guys on scholarships too. Very very dangerous, and we need to play our best! Same for St. Mary of the Woods!
