Yes, I know what you mean. I was done after that Rutgers comeback game and almost gave up decades worth of continuous ticket points,,, but came back anyway. Now… well you know.@hurryinghoosiers IU had the same 30,000 people show up for decades to support football and those people are amazing and one of the reasons I created this place in 2013. I would assume these are not the active IU fans on X or most of social media.
Their faith was rewarded in the best way possible.
There are the new fans, which there will always be new fans, that seem to be up in arms over perceived disrespect. Happens everywhere. However, they are so easily baited into arguments; it's tiring.
Then you have the people who took dumps on the program and now are upset that Notre Dame or SEC fans say anything negative. Those are the most annoying.
Fandom is a wide spectrum, but I do find it hilarious that most of the people who are the most upset are the ones who largely crapped on IUFB pre-Cig.
To me, there's a major difference between being a fan who is tired of losing and being frustrated and showing that with you wallet and saying that Indiana should drop football altogether with a straight face.
We have all said, "That's it! I am (insert expletive here) done with this" and then came back and watched the next game at some point. I know because I am one of them.
I just chuckle when certain people stomp their feet in tantrum on social media or other podcasts.
As far as preseason polls. They are fun, a great discussion and as long as the voters are not stubbornly tied to their preseason rankings, just fine.
The ranking makes sense, especially after losing a Heisman-winning QB. I know Hoover was a solid get, but there are still questions. Teams 1-5 all have returning QBs, so they're more of a known commodity at that position than IU.

Last year we started at 20, and that was fine because as we took care of business we climbed all the way to 2 before the B10 championship and then 1, after. At 6, even if we were to lose to OSU, if we won out, I'd suspect we'd still be in consideration for a bye. If we lost another, we'd still be in in my opinion, but probably traveling to a first round matchup. Depending on the loss, that could come back to haunt us if the committee wants to punish us for the weak precon, as I believe some would.

It isn't just about being ranked 6th. We received 8 first place votes, which means multiple people had us lower than 6th...probably much lower given that 2 teams without a single first place vote jumped ahead of us.
I think it's hard to argue that there isn't some anti-IU bias by some of the people doing the rankings. And unfortunately preseason rankings matter because future rankings are based somewhat on previous rankings. As long we take care of business on the field, it won't matter but if we're on the bubble with other teams, it may.
A school named Alabama or Ohio State coming off an undefeated season and a natty would certainly be ranked in the preseason Top 5, but that's ok. Seems crazy to say after 27-2 but we're still building our brand. As long as we've got a strong resume when the first poll that really matters is released - - the initial CFP rankings on November 3 - - we'll be fine.

6th, 9th, 18th. Who cares? Come winter, we'll see who the real #1 is. Last preseason, Penn State and Clemson were Top 5, while IU was at 17. Those numbnuts voters see a big name and get a hard on.
