Sometimes fans boo. I don’t think anyone was too adversely affected by it. I’m a little shocked there’s kind of a mini-firestorm about this…
Whether we have fans who haven't seen football before or not, we have some absolute morons in our crowd. And I'm not necessarily suggesting we're alone in that regard.Booing is stupid. But man, acting like our fans haven't seen football before is also stupid. The booers were idiots for booing, but not for being frustrated at the offense. They were right about that. Injuries or not.
Don, I'm Ok with him saying something. Rein it in! But also think he cares about staying on the good side and friends with Cig.
Somebody posted a clip from years back where Don had had enough, and he himself vented about our poor play. I can't remember if that was the Tom Allen era but I thought it was. So, he's not immune.
(And no need to post about the difference between the Cig era and previous eras. Booing this team and staff is dumber then doing it in the past. But it's always dumb.)
Example: Guy next to me and his wife have to be the two most negative people I've encountered in my life and aren't afraid to express it. But what makes it even more hilarious (stupid) is the guy has been yelling all year about how if we're going to play zone defense, we can't win. Dude is obviously so oblivious he didn't mention we played zone on our way to the national championship last year. My guy stomped out of the Northwestern game because we weren't ahead by enough points. He literally said to me after we scored to get within one score vs OSU "I guess I have to stay now". THANK GOD he wasn't there for the Minnesota game. I can only imagine the hissy fit he would've thrown. Just an absolute moron. But very confidently so. And he's apparently had season tickets for 15 years or so, but just moved to our side this year. How lucky for me 🙂
1) I thought the booing was significantly noticeable
2) IIRC, it was only our second to last series before half when Hoover missed on 3 straight passes. There might have been some groaning at different spots, but that was the only spot I recall out and out booing.
3) I didn't boo and I don't particularly like it. It's just not productive.
4) I will give the boo birds a little slack to the extent that we're not in the era of playing for the old alma mater any more. Hoover is probably not going to be a pro and he's getting paid life changing money to come and quarterback a team and make throws to wide open receivers. If they don't think he's earning his paycheck, I understand it. Hell, Andrew Luck was booed out of the building for abruptly retiring when he realized he couldn't do continuous rehab any more.
5) Before he was hurt, Hoover consistently missed throws. Sometimes he got bailed out by the receivers. At some point though, there is major frustration when throws keep just getting uncatchably missed. We're not talking some contested catches or being a little off. He's majorly missing wide open guys. The frustration is just boiling over.
I don't think the booing was for Hoover but for the decision to keep Hoover in when he is obviously not 100%. None of the fans are against Hoover (or cignetti) but that doesn't mean they like every decision. Like the difference between saying "you did something stupid" and saying "you're stupid". Fans meant the former, but don jumps on his high horse and accuses the latter
Don is overreacting.to people voicing displeasure.
I would much rather people boo than be indifferent. I wonder if don would rather be in the stadium by himself if it meant being with people that can only be cheerleaders
With winning, comes expectations. With expectations comes frustration with bad play. No one would've booed, if not for the repeated close games. I've been shocked at how quickly our fanbase has gotten spoiled and entitled, but it is human nature, and not surprising. I don't think it bothered Cig one bit. Did anyone ask him about it?
This is probably an entirely too simple thought about this, but here it goes.
We boo when the visiting team comes out of the tunnel onto the field. We boo when we see the Purdue and OSU logos on the B1G commercial on the videoboard.
So when we boo our own players, we're really saying we feel the same way about you or a decision you made as we do about those things.
Which is kinda stupid.
I don't really care if they're paid now or not. I never booed my pro sports teams when I followed pro sports either. I don't understand why we'd want OUR GUYS to feel like we think they suck.

No that is not really what people are saying.
That is like not understanding that some words have multiple meanings depending on the context.

Boos are saying "you suck!" "you are sucking!" or "that decision sucks!"
Never heard fans boo meaning "my seats are going to cost more next year, you're so good!"
I didn't even boo Jeff George. Although me and my friends were in the minority of Colts fans those particular games. I'd only boo one of my teams guys if it was some criminal that shouldn't be representing them.
in what context is booing not basically saying ’you/your decisions suck’?This is probably an entirely too simple thought about this, but here it goes.

Big difference between you suck and your decision sucks.
But A for effort lumping them together. I see nothing with people booing their opinion

Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

Sure Don, everyone knows you’ve been making a big deal about this. And it never was a big deal.
