Based on the string of decommits we've recently experienced, I'm confident the staff is re-evaluating talent options during the bye week. No facts but appears hard love discussions about future options for some of our commits are taking place.
Anyone have insight? Go Hoosiers!
Since these decommits have been said to be mutual, your assessment is probably correct. Indiana is seeking higher grade recruits from HS & the portal

Is it possible some of these guys have under-performed since committing?

This is what the high majors have been doing for a while (see OSU, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, etc.). To be in that position is incredible.

Potentially, but I think it's more of the fact that you need to overrecruit to a degree because of all of the reshuffling happening each year and perhaps more importantly, from a HS perspective, the coaching carousel has opened up a lot of opportunities earlier than expected.
There are also a bunch of guys at mid-majors and lower level schools already hitting the portal, so the staff wants to be ready to evaluate those.
We had 25 commitments and still seem to be going after more players (like Sieg). Add a likely 10-15 portal transfers and we would be looking at likely over 40 incoming players (about half the team).
So not entirely shocked we needed to cut some players to fit the players that the staff wants more.
Both players indicated they talked to the staff before decommitting. I don't think IU was was really pushing for them to stay from the sounds of it.
Not super bummed about Dues but it does leave safety on thinner end. I was looking forward to seeing Bryson play though, natural athlete

If I were to guess, we're probably looking at a transfer class around the 20 mark.
Since the feeling is these de-commitments are mutual, I can see where the NIL budget is playing a huge part... as guys like Bryson get recruited over for better talent the budget shifts to accommodate the new commitment... I would not be surprised if Bryson and the others were told their NIL money will need to be cut back... Ah, what a business college football has turned in to.
Maybe, but I haven't seen anything suggesting we reneged on any compensation promises.
@tammany ... and we probably won't. But it makes as much sense as just simply telling a player they're no longer wanted.
@jsenleo I agree. That's probably the untold story and it helps recruits save face when they simply say "after discussions with the coaches, I've decided to decommit."
