The Committee isn't slotting the Hoosiers ahead of OSU, even if it's warranted. And I don't see A&M being above IU. Hence ... #2.

Ah, no matter. The only ranking that means squat is the final one.

I'd like to think the committee won't use the "they're the reigning champs" argument like most say as an excuse for why they are #1 ahead of IU in the polls.  This should be purely resume at this point and if it was a blind resume, IU would be #1.   So I think we are #1.

I agree. The Ohio State fan base is the most insecure group of people I’ve ever seen. This would make them so upset. 😂

Yea.  We really put the CFB world in a pickle when we beat Oregon.

I think the committee follows the resumes for the 2025 season and puts us #1 Tuesday.  There is a lot of FB to be played and things can change quite a bit.

Putting OSU over us probably creates too many questions for the committee.  If they're all about quality wins or whatever, well OSU doesn't have anything like our best win, and any pretzel logic they present to put us #2 isn't going to look very good.  If the committee wants to ding us, they will think they have future chances to do so.  Maybe they will get those chances, maybe they won't.  We shall see.

#2.

OSU has been number #1 all year and are the defending Champs.  There's no reason they shouldn't be ranked #1.

If A&M is above us, then the committee has some explaining to do

They did put ND higher than us last year so obviously they are free to not use logic and what has happened on the field.

I say #2.

We are #1 in most metrics, #2 in SOR (OSU is #3), and have a better paper resume

I think we have a good shot at #1

I'm more worried about us dropping one game, and missing the B1G Ten championship game. I want a shot at a Big Ten title! How awesome would that banner be?!

I care less about the playoffs yet.

I used https://v2.playoffpredictors.com/home , and set the remaining games so USC and Michigan running the table (USC beating Oregon and UMich beating Ohio State) and finish with one loss each.

If they pulled that off and we dropped one game (I set that to Penn State), how would the tiebreaks shake out? Predictor says we finish fourth in that scenario.

But the key seems to be that USC is the one that needs to run out, for us to miss. Because if I set it to USC losing to Oregon but Michigan beating Ohio State it has us in second, Ohio State third. We'd play Mich in the title game. So Ohio State needs to beat Michigan even more than usual.

Below is if both USC and UMich run out and we lose to Penn State:

#   WL Conf
1 USChttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> USC 10-2 8-1
2 UMhttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> Michigan 10-2 8-1
3* OHStatehttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> Ohio State 11-1 8-1
4 IUhttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> Indiana 11-1 8-1

So, beat Penn State!

So I was a bit wrong, if Mich loses to Ohio State and USC runs out, if we lose one. We still go, Ohio State, then us.

#   WL Conf
1 OHStatehttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> Ohio State 12-0 9-0
2* IUhttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> Indiana 11-1 8-1
3 USChttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> USC 10-2 8-1
4 UMhttps://static.playoffpredictors.com/div-1/' + Conference +'/' + Division+'/' + (TeamLogo || TeamAbbreviation) + '.svg'}" /> Michigan 9-3 7-2

So, I believe both need to run out if we drop a game. Ain't going to happen.

And anyway, Indiana is going to run the table!

@openwheel if we lost to PSU we would be in over USC due to common opponent record.

USC and Michigan don’t play PSU this year. Meanwhile we beat Illinois and USC did not, we win that tie breaker of common opponent record

Yeah, that sounds right.

Not sure why their calculator ranks it the way it does. Said the big ten tiebreak was the same as the NFL or something and they used that.  Unless we lose a tiebreak to OSU in a 4-way since they beat Penn State, and they lose it to whoever beat them and that trumps our tie break. Which doesn't seem right.

Ahh well, I'll go with yours. Thx .

I wouldn’t mind seeing us at #3, with a chip on our team’s shoulder.  #1 is added pressure, not to mention what extra motivation it would be to OSU to be slighted like that.

@tammany What a time to be alive where we can be upset about potentially being 3rd in the CFP rankings. Wild times!
