Mayfield moved up his commitment date about a month. It seems like it will be between IU and Georgia, but IU is in a good spot here last I heard
Mayfield to go along with Hobbs at backer would be a pretty phenomenal linebacker class.
I hope @iugradman is pitching in $15 so Cig understands the importance of this guy
I understand that it would be nice for the fans ego to have a loaded class but Cig and Co. have been tremendously successful without the highly rated classes. Do you want them to suddenly change their MO because they won the natty? I do not.My 2 cents- I was hoping our recruiting class was going to be loaded at this point. I know that is not realistic but a guy can dream.
@thehoosierhuddle have you heard that Harris-Dupree is committing tomorrow? Could be another good day.
@walt542 can’t argue with the results. They have been more than I could have thought possible.
@boogie heard it would be sometime this week, not a specific day though.
@iugradman so if you're not a rage baitor, I guess you're just a master baitor?
@walt542 Don't think it's changing strategy, as Cig has always said HS recruiting is the foundation. I believe he was portal heavy at first out of necessity, but believe his intended strategy is to move to a bigger mix of developed HS talent augmented with portal adds as needed. Not verbatim, but I've heard him express that sentiment on more than one occasion.
This is true. However, going after a highly rated class might be at the cost of getting the kind of high character kids he has been successful with. That would not be a good thing in my opinion. Also he and his staff have certain physical traits they are looking for and it must be obvious that the rating agencies have not the same set of traits based on the HS ratings and results of teams IU played last year. Therefore the kids he wants are not necessarily the ones the agencies rate highly. There will be some crossovers such as Sales, but it looks like there may not be a lot of them. Therefore I would not expect to see highly rated HS classes at IU until the rating agencies can catch up with him.@walt542 Don't think it's changing strategy, as Cig has always said HS recruiting is the foundation. Four star and higher guys are just going to be widely distributed. No program can afford as many as they want, so then some other program bids highest on a guy that was say, 5th on Ohio State's priority list but that guy then becomes number 1 on say Michigan States priority, maybe we get outbid on the same guy because he's 2 or 3 on our list.
If the players maximize their dollars, and many or most will, they will get distributed. Nobody can afford as many as they want. Winning and prestige helps bigger name programs to get some discount, but only goes so far.
Moneyball.

They have been pursuing highly ranked players so clearly they want a loaded class. Are they willing to pay up? Florida is making a move for Brewster despite a lack of recent success, most likely because they are offering a ton of money.
Ratings are VERY subjective as well. There are "3 stars" who are just rated that because they don't go to camps or get seen by the recruiting services. Over paying to just say you had a top whatever class is not smart. I understand folks are frustrated, confused and all of that. But maybe, just maybe this staff who is 27-2 at IU has their process and evaluates everyone.
Cig has also said that he does not care about star ratings.
@iugradman I would move on from Brewster if I was the staff. He has flirted and danced with a dozen programs after being verbally committed to TTU. Why would you ever pay huge dollars for someone who may play one year and then leave?
It's a new era of recruiting and so many are treating it like it's 1998.
Until the one free transfer rule is in place, overpaying for HS recruits is bad business.

You don’t understand recruiting.
@walt542 One thing I'm confident of: you and I (and others) can guess at their recruiting strategy, but this staff isn't guessing, they know what they are looking for! They know what they are looking for and a big chunk of that, I believe, is always going to be high character guys.
