With the start of spring practice comes the updates to the heights and weights of the entire roster.

I've updated everything...if you find a mistake, please let me know.

Questions for Jamie, Sammy or whoever else may know:

1.  Of the 5 2nd team OL listed, (Noval; Leibfried; Marek; Parker; Wilkin) what 3 do you see getting the most PT?

2.  One transfer I've heard very little about is safety transfer Quan Sanks from Cincy.  I see he is listed at 2nd string rover....any thoughts on him?

3.  I have high hopes for Seaonta Stewart at safety; what have you heard about him?

4.  Do you think Ohlinger will get the most PT of the trio of him, K. Turner & PJ Nelson?

5.  I really liked what I saw of Tyrone Burris at DE in the spring game.  Right now he looks like the #5 guy.  Will he get serious PT at DE this Fall?

6.  Do you see either C. McHaney or Gabriel Hill or both being rotation guys at DT with Hielle, J. Hall & Kyler Garcia?  If there was an odd man out of those 5, who do you think it would be?

My bad for not seeing this earlier.

Let me hit these point by point with my opinion:

1. I don't really see any getting much PT unless there is an injury. My guess, if there were injuries, is you'd see Leibried inside and Wilkin outside. The others, I just don't know enough about. I wrote before last year that Wilkin was my favorite "deep sleeper" because he was super athletic in HS but I wasn't sure if he had the length to play tackle. It seems like they think he can. Leibfried has the body type of a tackle but has basically always been an inside guy when we've seen him.

2. I think Sanks is a guy to get into the program in hopes that he can play Rover at some point. He's a big hitter and built much more stoutly than the traditional safety body that IU looks for (Zachman, Ferrell, Baldwin). Longer and leaner.

3. I haven't heard much on Stewart. I liked his profile and versatility when he committed but we just haven't seen much from him yet to know what they have. Hopefully we'll get reports this summer about how he looks heading into his second fall camp.

4. I'm still in wait and see on Ohlinger. I was actually more impressed with him as a RB than LB. Again, the HUDL caveat applies but he's a good athlete. I just think he's going to take some time with him. Anywhere past my 2 deep is really kind of up in the air since we haven't had many reports from spring and there were injuries from the long season. I do really like Jacob Savage and am on record saying Ja'Dyn Williams has a chance to be a multi year starter. The sideline to sideline stuff with him to go along with the thump he showed is why OSU tried to get him late. He's a player.

5. I really like Burrus. Him actually looking competent as a true freshman playing in the CFP was amazing and shows how much work he put in. Now, they added Burnham and Obiazor who are both really, really good players. I suspect we'll see Burrus get some run early and how well he does in fall camp and those early reps will drive how much he actually plays this season. I think it's a more developmental year for him.

6. To me, it's really hard to play as a true freshman on either OL or DL. My guess is that we see McHaney and Hill (with White and Smythe behind them and in need of more seasoning) play some in the buy games but, unless there are serious injuries, won't see them much to keep their redshirt. My take right now is that Hall is the guy behind Tucker at NT but I had heard last year that people really liked Kyler Garcia...He just doesn't seem like a guy who is that stout, small, thick, NT type. He's longer and projects more as a DT than NT...Thing is, Hjelle can probably play both spots. So, my guess is that it's Landino, Tucker and Hjelle with Garcia and Hall as the back ups at this point.

The roster has again been updated.

I've subtracted Kyler Kropp (walk on) and Triston Abram.

Losing Abram is frustrating to me. Maybe he didn't jive or got overtaken on the DL. Either way, his HUDL video was easily one of the best I've ever seen from a IU prospect that actually committed and IU fought off a late surge by Michigan to keep him.

So, as of today, I have IU with 83 scholarships and 105 total players on the roster with the addition of Stephen Daley.

Scholarships don't matter anymore but you cannot come out of camp with more than 105 total players on the roster (scholarship/walk on) or there are very punitive rev sharing penalties, is my understanding.

IU is clearly still looking at Kellan Wyatt and potentially Holden Staes but would have to drop some walk on's.

@iureactionary Do the 5/5 players (ie Daley, Wyatt, etc) count against the 105 roster limit? I heard a comment that they don’t.

@iugrad84 They do, but Indiana does not have to be at 105 until the first game. So I would expect some walk-ons to get cut.
