Hoosiers at the Next Level: Darius Latham, DT, Oakland Raiders

Darius Latham | Oakland Raiders | DL

Darius Latham was one of the highest rated recruits in Indiana football history – or at least since rankings systems became commonplace. Latham, a former four-star prospect from Indianapolis, joined Indiana as a key cog of a much-hyped 2013 class. He was one of the few players from that recruiting class who produced, and stayed, on the field. In three years at Indiana, Latham played in 31 games, recording 82 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries. Latham was an honorable mention for the All-Big Ten Team as a junior. He skipped out on his senior season at IU in pursuit of a professional football career.

Hoosiers at the Next Level: Rodger Saffold, OG, Los Angeles Rams

Rodger Saffold | Los Angeles Rams | G

While Tevin Coleman and Jordan Howard continue to rack up yards and touchdowns, perhaps the most decorated Hoosier in the NFL is Rodger Saffold. He started 41 games for IU over the course of his four-year collegiate career, primarily at the left tackle position. By his senior year, he earned second team All-Big Ten honors and was projected as a second-round draft pick due to his size, durability, and athleticism. The St. Louis Rams drafted Saffold 33rd overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. Now in his eighth year with the Rams, Saffold proved he’s incredibly valuable by having his best NFL season to date. Saffold has truly put his stamp on the Rams franchise both on and off the field.

Hoosiers at the Next Level: Jason Spriggs, OL, Green Bay Packers

Jason Spriggs | Green Bay Packers | T

Jason Spriggs has had a very unlucky start to his NFL career after a historic tenure at Indiana University. Spriggs was as durable as they come in college, starting 28 straight games to begin his IU football career. He made 47 starts in 48 games at right tackle, and as a senior he earned First Team All-American Honors. Spriggs excelled at the NFL combine and impressed many with his athleticism. He was projected as a second-rounder with potential to be a starting left tackle at the professional level. The Green Bay Packers, a notoriously conservative franchise, traded a fourth-round draft pick to move up nine spots to select Spriggs 48th overall.
