We have hit Week Ten in our First Glance series, which means the season is nearly here. The Hoosiers will make the short trek over to Urbana-Champaign to play Lovie Smith’s Fighting Illini in November, and have won the last two games against Illinois, which were in 2012 and 2013.

To round out our Top Five series on the offensive side of the ball we look at the big boys in the trenches. The offensive line is vital to any team’s success. If the line cannot protect the quarterback or give enough push to open some holes in the running game, the offense will be unproductive. The Big Ten has some of the best offensive lines in the country. Let’s take a look at who the IU defense must get by to stop the oppositions’ offense.

Over the course of the 2017 season the Indiana Hoosiers, who would top this list, will play some other pretty impressive receiving corps. 2017 will feature some familiar faces at this position, but many teams on the list will have new names to learn. Gone from this list from last season are Jehu Chesson and Amara Darboh of Michigan, Noah Brown from Ohio State, Chris Godwin of Penn State, and DeAngelo Yancey from Purdue.

I hope everyone had a safe and fantastic Fourth of July! This week we are looking at the guys that can take offenses to the next level and leave defensive coordinators mad- the tight ends. Jake Butt and George Kittle are finally gone, but there are a whole mess of guys that IU will see this season that will present very stiff challenges both in and outside of the Big Ten, including two that are among the nation’s elite.

As we march through the summer and into fall camp, Hoosier Huddle will look at the top five opposing players or position groups they will face in 2017. Only players and position groups from teams on the 2017 IU Football schedule are considered.
The Hoosiers face several tough running games in 2017 so this was not an easy list to compile. Talented players like Purdue’s Markell Jones and Rutgers’ Robert Martin were left off. Wisconsin definitely has one of the five best running games IU will face thanks to their beastly offensive line and the depth they’ll bring to the party but it’s impossible to pick out one, or even two, backs the Badgers will lean on (for the record, I like Wisconsin to walk away with the West and their running game is part of the reason why…them not being present here is not a “diss” to their rushing attack).
