Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 18 Days (Jacolby Hewitt)

We are officially 18 days away from the long-awaited kickoff of Indiana football. Just two IU football-less Saturdays remain until we see the Tom Allen and the Hoosiers face Penn State in a game we did not expect to see in 2020.
With 18 days to kickoff, we feature two players— the first being Jacolby Hewitt. The redshirt sophomore donned the cream and crimson No. 18 jersey last year and has since switched to No.2.
Name – Jacolby Hewitt
Position – Wide Receiver (RS Sophomore)
Hometown – Cordova, Tennessee (Cordova)
Height – 6’1”
Weight – 202
Ranked the No. 29 player in the state of Tennessee by ESPN, Hewitt chose Indiana over other DI offers from Purdue and Memphis. He finished his senior season strong with 54 receptions for 1070 yards and 14 touchdowns, and promptly moved to Bloomington to gain a head start at spring practice.
With the depth at wide receiver, he redshirted his freshman year, and picked up scout team player of the week honors for the Penn State game along the way.
In June of 2019, Hewitt suffered an ACL injury that did not recover quickly enough for him to see the field at all last season. Right now he is participating in IU’s full pad practices.
“He is still learning the playbook. Obviously, he has been here, but then going out and executing it at a full speed level, being able to know exactly what to do and when to do it,” Allen said in Monday’s press conference.
In 2020, a healthy, more experienced Jacolby will have his first opportunity to make a name for himself amongst IU’s talented wide receiver corps.
“He is definitely making progress,” Allen said, “and he is a guy that we need to be able to win some of those one-on-ones when you get a lot of man coverage.”
