What Hoosier Huddle Writers Think of IU's New 'Ghost' Jersey

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

On Monday Indiana announced that the football team will wear their black ‘Ghost’ uniforms against the Akron Zips. It had long been rumored that IU would eventually break out a black alternate uniform. Here are the Hoosier Huddle writes thoughts on that announcement.

T.J. Inman

“I love uniforms that look great without being too garish or over the top. I feel like IU's new "ghost uniforms" toe the fine line between being unique for Indiana and also looking good. That said, my opinion on how the uniforms look is completely irrelevant. What matters is whether or not the current players love the alternate unis and whether or not recruits think they are cool. If the answer to that is yes, I am 100% in favor of these uniforms. The target audience for something like this is not a middle-aged man who has zero fashion sense. The opinion of the players and recruits matters and what they think is the deciding factor. I hope IU beats Akron soundly and looks good under the lights in these alternates. I hope the athletic department sells the jerseys and makes money for the football program. That's all that matters.

Of course, if IU loses on Saturday night. I will blame the black jerseys and want them fired into the sun, never to be seen again.”

Ethan Roberts

“I think that the jerseys are a cool edition to the season. I feel like changing up the looks every now and then could catch a recruit's eye. Ultimately at the end of the day, what matters more than the threads is the win/loss column.”

Zach Greene

"IU got a much needed new look and the players love them. The red helmet is perfect and the red numbers sit well.”

Sammy Jacobs

“I really wanted to dislike the idea of a black jersey, but I think these are pretty slick. The number one objective is to draw the eyes of recruits and I believe IU accomplished that. IU had former and current players gushing over them on social media.

The black out game is a good idea (probably a solid annual game), but the execution is lacking. The jerseys have not been listed for sale, nor are there very many black IU shirts for sale through the official IU Shop. People want to buy these and one of the perks of an alternate jersey is that it is a money making opportunity so why not take advantage of it.”
