T.J. Ivy, 6’5”, 217 pounds, Chicago, IL (Marist), TE 247 Composite Ranking: 3-Stars (83.77)

Ivy's recruitment was a bit of a whirlwind as he went from IU to WVU and then back to IU once he lost trust in the coaching staff at WVU. Having talked with him on a few occasions, T.J. just wanted somewhere he felt comfortable and could have a chance to make an impact. West Virginia's loss is definitely the Hoosiers gain. Ian Thomas, who had a good year considering the injuries he had this year, showed with Mike DeBord running the offense the TE position would become much more involved in the offense. Ivy joins fellow IU commit Matt Bjorson at the position heading into next season. Along with the Hoosiers and the Mountaineers, UCONN, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State Oregon State, UCF as well as a few others made a push to land Ivy, but after he de-committed from West Virginia he picked IU on October 23rd.

The one thing that sticks out about Ivy's game is his quickness of the snap. He isn’t the best inline blocker at the position, but his hands are definitely a plus when it comes to his game. I see DeBord eventually making him a big part of the offense and using him as a vertical threat. In my opinion, he is the perfect replacement for Ian Thomas, but that doesn’t mean I expect the same level of play. Thomas is probably going to be playing on Sundays, but I believe Ivy could end up having more production than him at IU. Marist had a pretty good year, but fell short of their goal of winning state. Loyola Academy ended their season as they finished 11-1 (7-0). On the year Ivy finished with just 20 catches for 321 yards but almost half of those catches turned into touchdowns (7).
