Running Back Sean Cuono commits to Indiana

The Hoosiers, coming off of one of their most important weekends of the offseason, went to the well again and picked up Sean Cuono, a running back out of Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater, Florida.

RB coach John Miller was his primary recruiter, and was able to secure Cuono over offers from Auburn, Kansas State, West Virginia and others. 247 Sports’ composite ranking checks him in as the 55th best running back in the country, and a top-700 player nationally. He becomes the 10th player in the 2025 class and the third player from Florida, which currently ranks 29th in the country per 247 Sports.

He is currently listed at 6’0” 185 and while not a true bruiser, he has a very compact body that allows him to absorb contact, pick up extra yards, and then fall forward at the end of his runs. The number one ability that stands out at this point in his game is his short field shiftiness, as he is really good already at making jump cuts and sticking his foot in the ground inside the box to cut up field and make defenders miss. While not a true “gamebreaker” in terms of his straight line speed, his stride and ability to start and stop so well makes him deceptively fast when he bounces the ball outside and has shown he can take it to the house.

Offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan and running backs coach John Miller have mentioned multiple times how they want all of their backs to be able to do it all, and from what you can see from Cuono’s tape - he certainly fits that mold. He’s a good runner in multiple facets, holds on to the ball, pass protects pretty well for a high school player, and has been a good weapon in the screen game for his high school program. Curt Cignetti and his staff have emphasized “production over potential” in recruiting so far in their Bloomington tenure, but Cuono is a guy that is not only rated very well by major recruiting services, but is also someone that has run for nearly 3,000 yards and put up 28 rushing touchdowns in his last two seasons of high school football.

With lots of older players currently in IU’s running back room, the hope is that true freshman Kobie Martin and Cuono can help bridge the gap to the next line of IU running backs.

Stay tuned for more recruiting news, game time information, and more as we expect the offseason to have some more news coming soon.
