The Indiana Hoosiers find themselves at 4-4 (2-3) after getting back in the win column on Saturday after defeating Maryland 42-36. A lot went right for the Hoosiers and it can be seen on the stat sheet quite clearly. So here are some numbers that mattered in IU’s fourth win of 2016.
650/414/42- The Indiana offense finally woke up bulldozing Maryland’s defense for 650 total yards, 414 rushing yards and 42 points. This was the best the IU offense looked all season and it could not come at a better time as they enter a vital stretch to end the season.
13x2- 13 was a big number for IU on Saturday. They jumped out to a 13-nothing lead in the first quarter and produced 13 points off of the two takeaways the defense recorded.
5- Five different Hoosiers scored touchdowns. The multi-threat offense made it difficult for the Terrapin defense to key on just one or two players. All six touchdowns came on the ground, two from Diamont and one each from Tyler Natee, Mitchell Paige, Lagow, and Devine Redding.
4- Maryland had been having trouble protecting their quarterback this season giving up 20 sacks in seven games. The Hoosiers took advantage of their poor pass protection and recorded four sacks of their own. The four sacks resulted in a loss of 34 yards and a fumble.
11- Indiana linebacker Marcus Oliver forced two fumbles late in the game on Saturday giving him 11 forced fumbles for his career, which gives him sole-possession of the school record for forced fumbles
0- Hidden behind the fanfare of the Hoosiers’ running game was an encouraging performance from quarterback Richard Lagow. He completed 16-of-25 passes for 207 yards. He made smart throws and hit receivers on target when he needed to. Most importantly he did not throw an interception, something that has plagued him for most of the season.
