Kobee Minor, one of the veterans in the cornerback room, was one of three players to answer questions from the media after Thursday’s spring practice. He expressed to the media how he bet on himself after which in large part is due to coach Brandon Shelby. Also, he acknowledged how good it is to play alongside his brother Darryl Minor.

“We played together our last year in high school. He was a senior and I was junior. Having him back on the same team with me is really cool and the greatest thing. Who closer to me than him,” said Minor when asked about playing alongside his brother.

Minor a Texas Tech transfer was recruited by Shelby. He bet on himself and ran with the opportunity.

“When I entered the transfer portal coach Shelby had called me. He said you’ll have a real good opportunity to play here against top talent. I saw the opportunity and took it and ran with it.”

Last season, at Texas Tech, Minor was tagged as a captain and appeared in 12 games. He tallied 12 tackles with two pass breakups. He hopes to build off of that while serving as a mentor for the young players in the cornerback room.

“Just taking the young guys under my wing. Let them know that I’m here for them and everything they need,” said Minor on the young corners. “Springs been going well. I feel everyone is being one and were becoming a bigger family. Everybody here has welcomed me in with welcome arms. I feel like we got a shot to do something special,” on the development of the unit.

Coming from the Big XII conference Minor saw more of a high attack passing offense, which he described as air raid. “The big 12 is more air raid while the big ten is more run,” said Minor on the differences between the two conferences.

Minor has been putting in time off the field to make sure he’s prepared for the season and new play style, “Studying the playbook more, watching more film, and getting comfortable with everything.”

Minor was asked about the receivers that he’s been lining up against in Spring Ball, “We got a lot of bigger frame receiver, so they are deep ball threats along with their speed. I got to get adjusted to that and the new play style.

Lasty, Minor sees improvements in his game at man coverage and is getting better at understanding the scheme of the Hoosiers defense. One like the one the Red Raiders ran.

“I’ve been decent at man but me being the older guy in the room I’m starting to understand the scheme.” Minor said. “Where I came from, we were in the similar scheme but I’m starting to really know what everybody job is. I feel like my man coverage is getting better.”

The Hoosiers will wrap up spring practice with their Spring Football Saturday event on April 15th.
