Jaylin Williams, 5’11”, 170 pounds, Germantown, TN (Germantown High School), Cornerback (ATH), 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-Stars (85.80)
The Hoosiers will ink the top-rated cornerback in the state of Tennessee on Wednesday when Jaylin Williams from Germantown High School signs on with IU. Williams was originally committed to play for Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss until Freeze resigned in July. Two days after visiting Bloomington, and one week after he re-opened his commitment, Williams gave his pledge to IU on August 1st. He chose the Hoosiers over a plethora of schools, including Mississippi State, Washington State, Missouri, and others.
247Sports ranks Williams at four stars despite his composite ranking of three. When Williams picked Indiana his high school head coach, Chris Smith, said in a tweet, “I don’t care about the stars they rate, Indiana is getting one heck of a football player. Very professional organization.” High praise for his player is expected, but his high praise for IU was icing in the cake. His highlight reel backs up coach’s claim. Check it out on Hudl. Locals rave about the talented young prospect. Herb Smith, a digital media manager out of Arkansas said, "I've covered prep football for nearly 40 years. Indiana is getting one of the top five playmakers I've ever seen."
Jaylin Williams will likely look to one day fill the shoes of potential NFL-bound cornerback, Rashard Fant. Williams is so versatile, he could make an impact on offense, defense, or special teams. As a junior in high school he made 62 tackles and only allowed three completions all season. On offense Williams averaged a mind-boggling 23.7 yards per catch and had ten touchdowns on 36 receptions. The young man is electric. He is a playmaker. Today, Jaylin Williams becomes a Hoosier.
