Jacolby Hewitt, WR, 6’2”, 190 Pounds, Cordova, TN (Cordova HS) 247 Composite Three-Star (85.06)

6’2” slot receivers aren’t common, and Tom Allen and Grant Heard grabbing Hewitt is solid in year one. The All-State player from Tennessee for 6A out of Cordova High School played mostly on the outside in high school, but projects as a slot guy in Tom Allen’s system. He is incredibly quick, and does his best work out in space where he can show off his elusiveness. He could be a factor in the kicking game from the start of his career, but that won’t be all. IU needed some playmakers in this class to help with the transition to a new full-time starting quarterback, and Hewitt definitely fits the bill. Slants, bubble screens, and tunnel screens are the types of plays that will be put in the game plan to get Hewitt involved, and don’t be surprised if he takes some jet sweeps or reverses as well.

Hewitt joins an exciting group of pass-catchers on offense next year, and his calling card will be his versatility. Like I just mentioned, you should be able to do a bunch of things with him on O, and will be in the slot mix with Luke Timian and Whop Philyor. All three should play, and Hewitt will likely see his snap count increase as the year goes on as he becomes more comfortable playing D1 football as a freshman. He is another guy that should be playing from week one in 2018, and will be a very productive player for IU for hopefully a great four years.

Hewitt is a Top 1000 guy according to 247Sports, and went somewhat under-recruited after naming his hometown school Memphis as his leader last winter. Tom Allen and Grant Heard took that challenge head on, and gained tons of ground over the summer until Hewitt finally decided IU was the place for him in June. He has been one of the more vocal commits on social media, constantly reaching out to new commits and top targets to show them some love. He is pumped to get his IU career underway alongside some other incoming guys from Tennessee (Jaylin Williams, Cam Jones, Charles Campbell). You can follow him at @JacolbyDeshun!
