One of my favorite parts of the college football calendar used to be when Bill Connelly would start previewing every FBS team when he was at SBNation. Connelly is now at ESPN and his initial SP+ rankings were published on Thursday morning.
Connelly’s rankings are based on returning production, recent recruiting and recent history. The Hoosiers come in ranked 24th to start the 2025 season after finishing 2024 11-2 with a berth into the College Football Playoff.
The Hoosiers are one of seven Big Ten teams to be ranked in the SP+ top 25.
1. Ohio State
3. Penn State
6. Oregon
13. Michigan
21. Iowa
24. Indiana
25. Illinois
The Hoosiers will face four top-25 teams (PSU 3, Oregon 6, Iowa 21, Illinois 25), two sub-100 teams (Kennesaw State 130, Purdue, the lowest ranked P4 team at 116), Old Dominion (97), Michigan State (76), UCLA (69), Maryland (67), Wisconsin 41 and Indiana State.
