IU Adds Defensive Line Depth With Another JMU Transfer Tyrique Tucker
/Written by: TJ Inman
After a successful spring practice period, the Indiana Hoosiers turned to the spring transfer portal window in an effort to plug a few holes on the roster. Specifically, IU needs to add depth along the interior of the defensive line. That is a common issue as defensive tackles appear to be the most in-demand position during this portal window with several marquee programs on the hunt for big men capable of giving productive snaps. Curt Cignetti and his staff turned to their past to help address the defensive tackle depth, gaining a commitment from former James Madison lineman Tyrique Tucker.
Tucker, a native of Virginia, is the 11th former JMU player to join former head Curt Cignetti in Bloomington. He redshirted in 2022 and then started five games in 2023 as a redshirt freshman, racking up 29 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining, a major bonus for the Hoosiers as he should be able to contribute both now and in the future.
Tyrique Tucker is 6’0” and weighs nearly 300 pounds and he joins James Carpenter and Mikail Kamara as former Dukes that are now Hoosiers. IU is not done attempting to add talent to the defense. Kent State defensive tackle CJ West, UMass linebacker and Arizona safety DJ Warnell joined Tucker on official visits to IU this past weekend.
Hoosier Huddle will have continuing coverage of the spring portal window.
