Hoosiers Rebuilding Wideout Room with Additions of Carter and Williams

The Indiana football program needed an influx of talent at the receiver position after graduation and the transfer portal took several pieces from their room. With the additions of EJ Williams, a former 4-star recruit and Clemson Tiger and DeQuece Carter a Fordham transfer, the Hoosiers are hoping to revamp and develop a play making wide receiver unit for this upcoming season. The Hoosiers also expect Cam Camper to be fully healthy once the season rolls around.
“First of all, EJ Williams, DeQuece Carter, two guys we've added, two experienced players. EJ, is long and athletic. He can run and has great ball skills. Very, very elite player out of high school. To me, I expect him to come here and play his best football, and really excited about having a chance to connect with him and develop him as a man, as a player, and just excited about what he brings to us athletically” said Allen this past Sunday.
Williams was a four-star out of Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. He’s an experienced player who caught 40 passes for over 400 yards and two touchdowns during his time at Clemson and just didn’t quite mesh with the Tigers, but hopes to be a top-two wideout this season along with Cam Camper.
The trait that sticks about Williams is his first step. In his Junior Year High School tape, he’s elusive with an ability to get wide open once the ball is snapped. He could pair nicely with Cam Camper.
Camper was the Hoosier's most productive wideout this past season and found a way to get the ball. Camper lining up to the left and Williams lining up to the right along with Brendan Sorsby or Tayven Jackson at quarterback the Hoosiers offense will be just fine. The Hoosiers also picked up another veteran wideout in Dequece Carter from Fordham University.
“Quece - he goes by Quece - Dequece Carter is super, super productive, over 30 touchdowns, lots of yards, lots of catches.” Allen explained. “That's one thing you go, you take a guy, okay, let's go find a guy that has been highly, highly productive maybe at a smaller level but has that chip on his shoulder because he wants to prove he belongs with the big boys, and that's what he brings. He wants to come here and prove that he's a Big Ten guy and can make those same amount of plays.”
Carter was lightly recruited coming out of Woodberry Forest High School in northern Virginia. He made the most of his playing time at Fordham this past season tallying 56 receptions for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns. He caught the eyes of Walt Bell with his performance.
Carter has the ability to track the ball and be the Hoosier's slot guy this season. He made a spectacular one-handed catch a couple of years ago as well as an amazing touchdown reception against Holy Cross. Carter can also line up on the outside but with the Camper and Williams, Carter might need to be a Whop Philyor receiver.
“I love both those guys. I think they made that room a lot better, and I'm really excited to have them.” Allen said.
Allen also gave an update on Camper.
“Also in regards to Cam, he's doing awesome. He's ahead of schedule. Doesn't surprise me at all. He's a worker. He's disciplined. He's mentally and physically tough. He does everything you ask him to do, which I knew adds to your qualities before the injury then that's going to be how you're going to attack your rehab, similar to some guys in the past that have done a really, really good job with that, and I'm really, really proud of him for it. I expect him to be able to do some things during the spring. He won't be full bore, but he'll be progressing, but he'll be 100 percent by the season without question.”
