The recruiting momentum for the Hoosiers is starting to pick up. Less than 24 hours after picking up a commitment from Cooper Jones, the Hoosiers have their third commitment to the 2021 class in Bloomington North product Aaron Steinfeldt.

Steinfeldt is a a six-foot-five 235-pound tight end prospect who 247 Sports rates as a three-star recruit and the 12th best player in the state of Indiana. All three of Indiana’s 2021 verbal commits have been from in-state players. Jones is the 5th best player in the state and Rodney McGraw is listed as the eighth best prospect in Indiana.

Steinfeldt made his announcement on Twitter Friday afternoon. It said:

First off I’d like to thank God for giving me the blessings and talents to play the sport I love. Second I want to thank all my coaches who’s help guide me through this journey. I’d also like to thank the entire Bloomington North football staff and Coach Bless for giving me the opportunity to wear Maroon and Gold proudly across my chest. Third I want to thank my mom and dad for always being there for me and help guiding me through the process. Lastly I ‘d like to thank all the coaches who’d take time out of their day and recruited me, you’d really make my dream come true of being a Division I athlete, and I wish you all the best of luck in your upcoming season. With that being said, I’m excited to announce I’m staying home and I’m committed to Indiana University! Go Hoosiers! #LEO

Steinfeldt held 11 total offers ranging from the Ivy League to the ACC. His list included Ball State, Boise State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Indiana State, Miami (OH), Pennsylvania, Toledo, UCF and Virginia.

Steinfeldt has the skills to fit into IU’s offense at tight end. Last season he caught 40 passed for 546 yards and five touchdowns. He is physical in the blocking game and has the athletic ability and hands to go up in double coverage and pull passes down for receptions.

The local product has family ties to Indiana as well as his father is a professor of sport psychology at IU. The younger Steinfeldt made an unofficial visit to Bloomington on January 26th.

“The staff is a really caring staff that wants the best out of me. They want me to be a hometown hero and want me to stay a Hoosier. They all love football and really care about their kids and other coaches” Steinfeldt told Hoosier Huddle after his visit.

The Hoosier class currently sits at 39th nationally and 10th in the Big Ten.
