Hoosiers Offer Four From Lone Star State

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The Hoosiers spent Monday peppering Texas with recruiting offers, four in total and maybe more to come over the next couple days. Indiana has had some success in recruiting the state o Texas recently poaching players like Ralph Green (San Antonio), Jameel Cook (Missouri City), Dimitric Camiel (Houston), Richard Lagow (Plano), while Tyler Natee (Euless), Mackenzie Nworah (Houston) will join the team in the fall. So let's take a look at the four players IU offered from Texas on Monday.

1. Mustapha Muhammad, TE/WR, Missouri City, TX, Class of 2018

Indiana is one of 19 schools who have offered Muhammad, including Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Clemson, Texas, and Oklahoma among others. the 6'4" 213-pound tight end is ranked as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports. They list him as the 136th best prospect in the nation and the eighth best tight end. Muhammad is the 18th best player in the state of Texas. Muhammad is also a power forward on the basketball team at Ridge Point High School.

In his HUDL highlights Muhammad shows he can play all over the field in passing situations. He has enough speed to play outside and give smaller corners fits due to his size, can be split out in the slot to catch balls across the middle, and used as a traditional tight end in close to the line of scrimmage on shorter throws and in red zone situations.

2. Riko Jeffers, LB, Sachse, TX Class of 2017

The 6'1" 236-pound inside linebacker is rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports. He is ranked as the 630th best prospect in the country and the 23rd best inside backer as well as the 86th best player in Texas. Jeffers holds offers from 13 schools including Indiana, highlighted by Boise State, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Washington State, and Colorado.

Jeffers would be an ideal fit in Tom Allen's defense as a true inside backer, and his high school ran a version of the 4-2-5. He shows a nose for the ball and has the size to take on linemen in the Big Ten. He has decent speed and is a good enough athlete to chase down running backs and quarterbacks in the open field.

3. Bronson Boyd, Wide Receiver, Arlington, TX Class of 2017

The Hoosiers are looking for bigger wide receivers it seems as they offered another player who is over 6'3". Boyd is 6'3" and 185-pounds, an ideal frame for a wide receiver. Boyd is a three-star prospect according to 247 Sports Composite and is 1,127th best prospect in the country, the 154th best WR and the 139th best player in Texas. Boyd holds 14 offers including Indiana. The list includes Arizona, Boise State, Houston, Colorado State, Purdue, Texas Tech, and Wisconsin. Boyd's primary recruiter at Indiana is offensive coordinator Kevin Johns, who visited Boyd on April 25th.

Boyd, according to his HUDL page, runs a 4.49 40-yard dash. His tape shows his ability to go up and grab the ball and then out run defenders. He can play in the slot or on the outside, in high school Boyd even lined up at tight end, which he probably won't do in the Big Ten.

Overall, Boyd would fit the IU offense well by being able to play both in the slot and on the outside. That is something both head coach Kevin Wilson and offensive coordinator have put an emphasis on in the last couple of years.

4. Dimitri Moore, Outside Linebacker, Ceder Hill, TX Class of 2017

Dimitri Moore comes from great pedigree, he is the younger brother of Texas A&M linebacker Richard Moore. The younger Moore is a 247 Sports Composite three-star prospect rated 520th nationally, as well as the 41st best at his position, and the 71st best player in Texas. Moore has offers from 13 schools including Indiana, Kansas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas State, and Nevada.

At 6'2" Moore has the frame to add weight to his 185-pound body to play in a Power-Five conference. In his highlights you can see that Moore is an impressive athlete and can be a force in the pass rush, which the Hoosiers desperately need. He shows the ability to get off of blocks and make plays in the backfield.
