The Indiana Hoosiers gained the services of Stanford transfer Nicolas Toomer on Friday afternoon, making him the third transfer pickup for the Hoosiers during this window.
Toomer, a one-tie IU target out of high school, spent four seasons and in 21 games at Stanford. He made 29 total tackles and had five pass deflections. He has two years of eligibility left. He entered the transfer portal in December.
Coming out of high school 247Sports analyst Blair Angulo gave this scouting report about Toomer.
“Thin build and long, projectable frame. Physical defensive back. Gets involved in run support and will hit. Very comfortable in zone coverage where he understands responsibility. Covers chunks of ground. Good ball skills and versatility to fill several roles in secondary. Must improve change of direction and reaction speed. Potential starter later in college career and could garner NFL Draft looks.”
Toomer adds both talent and experice to the secondary for IU, which is badly needed after the 2022 season. IU recruited Toomer as a safety out of high school, but Stanford used him at the cornerback position. He will give IU the versatility they need in the secondary.
