Hoosiers Land Standout Defensive End James Head

Any concerns about whether or not the departure of Kevin Wilson and some key offensive staff members would impact IU's recent success recruiting in the state of Florida should now be very safely put to bed. After closing strong in the Sunshine State for the 2017 class, the Hoosiers have now added James Head, a 6'5" defensive end to the 2018 recruiting class.
Head made his announcement on Twitter on Friday evening and praise both head coach Tom Allen and defensive line coach Mark Hagen's vision for Hoosier Football. "I believe in Coach Allen's and Coach Hagen's vision on the future" Head wrote on Twitter.
James Head looks the part of a prototypical rush end that could develop into a terror for opposing quarterbacks. He's only 213 pounds so he'll need to put on some weight but his frame certainly looks like that won't be a problem as he's well-built with long arms, ideal for getting leverage to blast by opposing tackles. He chose Indiana over offers and heavy pursuit from Baylor, Mississippi State, Iowa State, NC State, Michigan State and South Carolina.
Head is rated a three-star prospect by 247 Sports' composite rankings and the 25th best defensive end in the country. Head's commitment brings the Hoosiers class of 2018 to eleven players, three in the past two days, and Head is the second defensive end in the class, joining Illinois-native Gavin McCabe along the defensive line. Mark Hagen and Tom Allen have worked very hard to build IU's defensive line depth over the past few classes and 2018 is shaping up to be more of the same.
