Hoosiers Bolster QB Depth with ODU's Grant Wilson

Indiana’s quarterback room was a major plus in 2024 and Curt Cignetti and his staff are doing everything they can to ensure the same is true in 2025. Kurtis Rourke exhausted his eligibility and backup Tayven Jackson has transferred to UCF but the staff, including new quarterback coach Chandler Whitmer, has reloaded the room with a great mix of players.
Fernando Mendoza, one of the top portal quarterbacks in the country, figures to emerge as the starter and his brother Alberto Mendoza will be a redshirt freshman. A knee injury suffered by fellow redshirt freshman Tyler Cherry complicated the depth as Cherry’s 2025 status is in question. The staff added incoming freshman recruit Jacob Bell and preferred walk-on Maverick Geske but they have spent the past few days on the lookout for a veteran quarterback to round out the room. On Thursday night, the Hoosiers landed their man as Grant Wilson announced his transfer to Indiana from Old Dominion.
Grant Wilson is a Virginia native that started his career at Fordham in the FCS. He started 11 games in the Sun Belt for Old Dominion in 2023 and threw for 2,149 yards with 17 touchdowns and an additional four rushing touchdowns. Wilson returned to the Monarchs for the 2024 campaign but was injured after three starts and missed the remainder of the season. Wilson fits the veteran back-up role perfectly and his addition comes after an official visit to Bloomington earlier this week. Assuming Tyler Cherry is unavailable for all of 2025, Wilson will likely battle Alberto Mendoza for the backup role behind presumed starter Fernando Mendoza.
